Do not blame the graphics! I could do better, but i want it to look like a toon. Dr. Freeman sprite by me, peisaje by me, and the 3D Menu made by a guy with a weird name. Download the game and view his name in the credits!

I need more people, like someone who knows how to use MMF2 better than me. Need someone who can fix the load feature from the menu, so anyone who is interested, join http://fab-games.info a new game-making team. Ill give you free space, for uploading your own future projects.

Thank you!

Posted by Muz 9th August, 2008

Oh, ok. Just post the URL in the screenshots part. Don't put other text or [IMG]

Please fix that walking animation!

What's wrong with the walking animation? Looks fine to me!

Posted by OMC 9th August, 2008

Ya know, somehow those graphics really look good... I may have to download this later...

why? WHY? WHY!?!?

...did you upload this?

badly drawn flat graphics, bad animations, hardly any movement control (mouse crosshair is there but why? you dont even shoot towards it. only left and right movement? no jump? no crouch?). nothing to do except walk to the right where the game just ends.

put a little more work into something before you call it a beta. otherwise its an alhpa that SHOULDNT be uploaded to the public...ANYWHERE.

kudos on the menu though.

Funny, I just finished playing half life 2 for the first time a couple days ago. I kinda want to buy episode 1 and 2 so that I can understand the story better.

Walking animation looks a little funny to me. Also, when you turn around, the gun magically switches hands.

as i said, its a toon. Not a good graphical game. Im not a spriter, i made that with my free imagination...a novice cannot make pro things ^^

the graphics/animations arent the problem. its the lack of any work. a better idea if you are serious about this is to make it a project in the projects section and include a link to the most recent beta. that way you dont see "new download. beta 5" of the same game on the downloads page.

Making a platformer out of HL is a good idea. The one provided by steam isn't very good.

That it is supposed to have a cartoon-like style doesn't mean the the animations have to be simple. Actually, this kind of style oftenly benefits (like any other game) from having smooth animations.

If you plan to let the pistol aim in the direction of the crosshair (which I think would be a good idea), I suggest that you make the arm holding the gun into an separate active, set its position to where it is supposed to be on Gordon, and set its direction to the crosshair. To make it rotate you can either use the angle function or just rotate its animation in 32 directions (I don't think you will need more).

As Cecil said, add this to the project session instead. I'm looking forward to see a some more things in this, like enemies.

This is not enough to call a beta. Well maybe a game engine beta if you suffice with an engine that allows you to move right and left and shoot.. You've got a nice menu even though it was confusing the first 5 seconds. The game itself was horrible. Sloppy graphics with only 1 animation and that was walking. 2 frames for that animation or what? Even classified as a demo this shouldn't really be in the downloads section.

"the 3D Menu made by a guy with a weird name"

Posted by Foo Fighter 9th August, 2008

when i rotate it in the animation editor, its looking worse...i mean i need to add to its angle 7.5 but every time i do that, its getting bad-looking...

download this: http://fab-games.info/thingy .mfa

you will see what im talking about. if you can fix it, i'd be thamked, and you will be on the credits page too!

The link doesn't work, even when change the smily for " Image.gif" border=0 alt="">", try renaming it.

Once you have made the arm into its own active, you set the hot spot at the shoulder where it is to be on the main sprite. Then you make its animation 32 directions and right click on the dot representing its animated direction and choose to "create rotated something".

Yes, it will lose quality, it is a matter of how important it is to you that the image remains with a certain quality. You will also have to make a restriction, so that the arm can't rotate 360 degrees, only 180, if you see what I mean.

If you don't want to loose quality, you will either have to paint more directions yourslef and rotate from these depending on which angles are closest to them, or paint it all yourself, or use the rotation function. If you do this, you may want to convert the 32 directrions into 360 degrees, so that you don't have to make it more complicated than neccessary.

Always: set dir("arm") to (0,0) from "crosshair"
set angle to ((dir("arm")/32.0)*(1/360))

Ummh, didn't think that through much... something like that.

ps.
Somebody please rewrite the comment script so that tags are converted into spaces and symbols (eg.
-> ' ' and Image ) in the edit form.

yeah a 'beta' is when the game is basically finished but released in order for people to find bugs and help finetune the final product. I'm pretty sure this game is barely just started rather than almost finished.

Don't make excuses now. anybody is capable of making a decent walking animation.
As it is there is nothing really to comment on.

Posted by Foo Fighter 10th August, 2008

well, dunno if i can continue the project, but i want to thank for Simon and Einebrant

I am the ZEZARD, never forget that!

Don't give up on the project if you like it, I think it's build on a good idea (guess many people came to this session and got dissapointed because they were expecting some "space crab" shooting). What you should do is try out the "Projects" session.

There is only one person who could pull that walk off in real life

But on a more serious note... Don't release something on here unless its at least a demo.
