Andy: He hasn't rewritten the speech. Those are all real covers. When he's got thousands of covers, there's bound to be a few dozen really fucked up ones.

I like the "SOCK IT TO HIM, LUTHOR BABY!" bit.

haha, what a dick.

Anyone else think that a lot of these comics are just government propaganda (in disguise) from back in WW2? Especially ones like this:

And any others talking about 'Japanazis'. They actually seem like friendlier\cartoonier versions of this:

Hardly in disguise. "BUY WAR BONDS" isn't exactly subtle. WW2 was kind of a big deal, everyone was doing it. Just about everything at the time was telling people to buy bonds. You've probably seen the Bugs Bunny propaganda films.

lol (sorry, I couldn't resist saying that).

Ah, those covers are authentic, but they're a parody of the real Superman. You can see it because most don't have a Marvel comics mark on it.

I may be wrong here, but isn't Superman a DC comic, or something like that? It's just that there is a DC comics stamp thing on the top-right corner.

*sigh*
They're real. Most of them are over 50 years old.

From wikipedia entry "DC Comics":
The company was originally three companies, National Allied Publications, Detective Comics, and All-American Publications. The first two companies merged in the 1930s to become National Comics (later National Periodical Publications) and the third shared offices until it was bought by the merged company in 1945. At this time "DC", an abbreviation for Detective Comics, was simply an informal logo regularly used on the cover.

They didn't become DC until 1945.

Didn't know that these war things were so popular back then. Good idea, I suppose. I'm still shocked by how they stereotype the Japanese so badly. "It's alright to slap a jap"? Hmm

Kris: There was the small matter of an ongoing war at the time. It's nothing that isn't happening now. Anyone who doesn't agree with the US is demonized as a "terrorist."

Well, of course there was a war, but I find it a bit immature that they stereotyped their adversaries like that

It's amusing to see how many times they re-used the same "But why would superman do such a thing? Read on to find out!" storylines. For a similarly un-heroic superman look for losing lois lane on ifilm. It's a pretty amusing fan film.
