Like a lot of lefties, I can use either hand, but just feel more comfortable using the left. Logitec actually make some of the better symmetrical mice. Microsoft are probably the worst offenders.

One thing I just haven't been able to get used to is holding the Wiimote in my right hand (yes, bring on the jokes)

So when this happens, but one arrow is pointing in a different direction to the other, I'm screwed.

Pick me! Gimme some skin dude. Left-handers are the best of the bunch. Though it's a pain in the behind when the only extra baseball gloves sitting around are for right-handed people, or when the only other left-handed person in your family is on the other side of the table, so you constantly bump elbows with Righties. -__- Etc etc.

Heh, I've never come across a mouse I couldn't use, but I totally get the Wiimote thing. What bothers me most is trying to play games on my laptop with more complex control schemes, like an FPS. I've always used arrow keys, and there just aren't enough buttons around there to hit quickly in action ;P

I do a lot of other stuff right-handed though. It's natural for me to hold a guitar the righty way, the fretboard seems like it needs more manual dexterity than strumming... why do rightys find it best to do all that crazy work with their weak hand?

I'm a lefty, but use the mouse with my right hand, I would actually have trouble for a while if I tried to use the mouse with my left hand.

Since I use the family computer I can't change the mouse to a lefty through the control panel folder. (would be a pain to have to do that each time I use the computer)

My dad's a leftie, and he uses his mouse on the left hand side of his PC - he hates it when i switch it round for him! Incidently, it matters not which set up i use for playing guitar, either left or right-handed - i suck at both!

Left-handed people are just awkward.

If you learnt to use your right from an earlier age you wouldn't have any problems.

If it only depended on which one you picked it would be more likely that either everyone was right-handed or it was split evenly down the middle. It has a lot to do with genetics.

This is a thread about being left handed. So, YES. That Razer Diamondback one looks perfect though. I don't think I've ever owned a mouse that I've been perfectly happy with. Using the MS Arc one at the moment.

I also play guitar the right-handed way (although like Neuro, it feels like that should be the called left-handed way).

Talking about what Neuro said again, a lot of "right-handed" things have always struck me as being quite left-handed. In each of these (the first 3, anyway), which hand requires more coordination?

Guitars - in most songs, your left hand does a whole lot more complex work than your right hand.
Cameras - I believe you can get left-handed cameras but I wonder why. Your right hand is only used to press the button while your left hand supports the lens and keeps the camera steady.
Golf - Possibly debatable, but in a right-handed swing your right arm is used for power whereas your left arm actually guides the club.
WASD - Unless the FPS requires a crapload of keys, I find these controls to be very comfortable. Thumb for CTRL (crouch), Q for Jump, E for use, and R/F/T/G used for auxiliary things like grenades, flashlights, etc.

Games that use WASD + Space-to-jumwp controls are a nightmare (MAYHEM THREEEEEE)

Part of those things are just done one way, and if a left-handed version is made it's not that the other is right-handed, just that an opposite orientation that goes against the norm is decided to be correlated to left-handedness! Like the camera thing. I never think of a camera as being right-handed. A left-handed camera isn't necessarily better for left-handed people, it's just opposite of a typical camera.

Some things I bet are either simple enough or use different types of accuracy and skill that it may not require the use of a specific hand. Just because it's more complex doesn't necessarily mean it requires the same dexterity that makes you use one hand over another, when writing, for example. With a guitar, yes the fretboard requires more movement, but moving your fingers to positions with a considerable amount of leeway isn't quite the same as being able to make a perfect arc with a computer mouse while drawing a circle. It's like being able to do the Vulcan farewell with either hand. (which some can't do. They probably have trouble with guitars. ) It is weird that a lot of people whether left or right handed hold the guitar the same way. So it must be something separate from what makes us use primarily one hand to write.

I'm just thinking out loud. It's fun to contemplate.

Them clocks are pretty standard in Bavaria, I believe! My cousin lives over there and brought one over for me as a gift.
But yea. With a proper camera the right hand does more than just use the shutter. There are dials and buttons positioned around that area, the left hand only handles focussing and zoom and stabilises the lens. When you have more motor control in one hand than the other it's able to move quicker, which is probably why the shutter is operated with the right hand.
And I guess with guitars it's because there's more strain put on the right hand than the left.

I don't agree with that about guitars - the left wrist gets tired a lot quicker than the right especially when doing barre chords or awkward stretches. Depending on the style of play, the right hand can do very little really - obviously that can change when doing some classical or rasguedo-type stuff but on the whole the left hand does more tricky stuff.

On a similar note, how do you eat? I've always eaten the way a left-handed person does (ie knife in left hand) because that's how I found it easiest, yet I'm right-handed in every other way I can imagine.

It's definitely not new. People argue over whether left-handed people are more creative than right-handed people, but that's not what Alspal said. In my experience there are more creative left-handed people than there are non-creative left-handed people.

My girlfriend is left-handed. I'm a righty, though. Aside from writing, there's not that much difference in being left or right handed

I play FPSes just as good with control in either hand. I think the guitar was invented by a left-hander. Oh well, we've got more gaming mice But I really don't think it's that hard to learn to use the mouse with my left hand.. it's just that I'd get confused for a while between "left-click" and "right-click".

Mmm, that reminds me of an annoying part of being left-handed. After a day in social studies in 5th grade, the side of my hand would be entirely grey, and the notes would have a uniform haze all over them. After that I used to have trouble with ink pen smearing, but for some reason neither of those things happen much anymore. I guess it's because I don't take as many notes in my college classes. Or I've just adjusted somehow. Or maybe it still happens and I just don't notice anymore?

But it's still infernally annoying to have 40 right-handed desks to every 1 left-handed desk, and right-handed people who don't care about writing during class have taken all the left-handed seats.

Everything about my right hand is superior to my left hand, although my left hand is probably just lazy. Also, I think you're born with that trait. It's decided from which hemisphere of your brain is the dominant one. That is also why the stereotype exists as the right side of your brain is more creative and is responsible for controlling the left side of your body. The left side the strategist logical mathematical side.

I notice lefties generally have a nicer writing ability too.

Also fun to know that if you have a sinus headache on the right side of your face than the sinus infection is more likely on the left side of your face. I dunno why they programmed brains backwards, god must be a lefty.

thinking is like pong, it's easy, but you miss sometimes.

Left handers are more 'creative' because they can't write properly without smudging the writing and are better at finger painting. Right handed people are better because they can write mathematical formulae.

A tad bump but I feel the need to say I'm a leftie and I'm proud of it =

*raises his left hand high*

Like most everyone else here, I play most stuff better righty even though I'm a lefty. I will say I can't play a DS right-handed, though, and I've never had the Wiimote problem fortunately.

(Most likely because I always play righty when using the wiimote+nunchuck unless there's a lefty option)

Funnily, most other photos of Shigeru Miyamoto show him holding the Wiimote with his right hand and nunchuck in his left. I do the opposite, unless I'm forced to switch hands (Wii Sports Resooort!)

I don't know any left handers who haven't conformed to using everything normally other than writing with their left hand. That would suck having to use everthing the wrong way.

I do almost everything as a right hander. I'm only really a leftie when it comes to Writing/Drawing or throwing and Kicking in sports.
