Poll: Do you like the idea?
I love it! - 6 votes
It's ok... - 3 votes
Meh... - 1 votes
I don't like it. - 1 votes
I HATE IT! - 0 votes

If you are reading this post, it is probably to find out what TDCKPA stands for...

I had this crazy idea that at the end of the year there could be this huge live-stream award show for the Klik programmers called: The Daily Click Klik Programmer Awards (or something like that). I have ideas, if anyone thinks this would bea fun/ good idea, and if anyone thinks this would be a bad idea please reply with your reasons.

Also, before anyone comments saying people's feelings might get hurt if they didn't get nominated or anything like that, think about the GotW, no one ever cried about their game not being a GotW, and if that doesn't convince you, please think about the point of the awards. It's not to see who the best programmer is, or who does the best graphics or music, or who's the best ever... It's just a way to end a year with a bang, and something that could be fun for people to do.

So leave a replay saying if you love the idea, hate it, think it's awesome, think it's lame, have criticism, have rants, ANYTHING.

The rest of them will write Perl programs.

Well, not everyone is a programmer, by definition. Some folks are artists, some sound designers, some are game designers. Still others might not release a project of their own, but they contribute to the spirit and enthusiasm of Klickers here at TDC. I'd recommend maintaining inclusiveness (for lack of a better word) by opening the appreciation awards to all facets of game design and the community, not just "programmers."

...Maybe TDCKA?

But the idea of establishing an annual appreciation award can help foster creativity, cooperation, and collaboration within the community. Anything that can do that can be seen as a Good Thing.

Or just TDCA. If only because Click Klik is weird.

Seems like a fine idea to me. But the end of the year just passed, so you'd have to wait a good 11 months.

Actually, I was thinking of including the whole community, but I guess I just used programmer as a generalization... Glad you like the idea, though

I'd say it's a decent idea. It might be a good idea to broaden the categories like best artist, best designer, most helpful member, best newest member, worst member, Best game of the year, Worst game of the year, most commented/downloaded game, least commented/downloaded game, longest topic (within reason) etc. The users can submit the their nominations during the year, and the top 3-5-10 from each category will be judged and revealed during the show, and of course the ones based on statistics will be announced during the show. For the worst/lowest game categories, wouldn't be an avenue to insult people, but more of a way to give attention towards something that might be neglected, and for worst member, more of an intensive to clean up their act. No idea, it could be good, it could be bad.

EDIT: some of you posted while I was posting, and kind of hinted at my suggestions, but it's all good, same concept applies.

I'd prefer "awards" that recognized members as a form of positive reinforcement. I for one would not like to be recognized for being the "worst member," even if it was granted to me as a way to change my behaviour. More likely it would push me away from participating.

There's already plenty of flaming and put-downs happening all over the Internet; I don't think there's a need to bolster that attitude with actual awards.

I agree with not voting for most member, but mainly because when nominating, people would probably just nominate whoever they were fighting with last, or random admins that made them mad. With a nomination system and judges being biased, it wouldn't be fair.

I suppose this is true o some extent for all categories but... I think it applies to worst categories the most.

That's fine, it's not set in stone, I figured I'd just throw it out there.

EDIT: Although I do think the lowest commented/downloaded would be a great idea, so that games that were missed can get another shot at some exposure.

Though up of some potential categories, if this ever happens. It's just what I could think of off the top of my head in a few minutes. Suggestions and criticism are appreciated. Obviously, incorporating ALL of these categories would take forever, but I wanted a large selection. Sorry for the long post.

I think we should ditch the people category altogether.

But I like the rest! If we can manage to gather the information we need to pull them all off. (Most commented could be troublesome, for example.)

Who's going to host this live ceremony?

The people category was more of an idea to promote people the help more, maybe a few categories he listed were a bit much. It was just an idea.

I figured for most commented and things of that sort it would take someone to look at them, because obviously if someone signs up a bunch of fake accounts or constantly double posts "on accident" or things like that, they shouldn't count, unless automation were utilized to calculate all the successive posts made by the same person/ip, maybe even make it so the author comments do not count.

Could come down to nomination. If you want your game in the running, sign it up? Doesn't sound like such a bad idea, does it? We'd have to give plenty of notice though.

The people awards aren't a bad idea in principle, but it seems like a lot less trouble to just award the games directly. We could maybe have awards like most GOTWs won or most articles written--things that are more objective. And maybe even things like best avatar. That's more neutral than most helpful and unhelpful members.

I'm not decreeing, by the way. Just my opinion.

I think putting your own game in to be evaluated as a nominee would be great, but there would have to be a few rules set in place like, only one category per game, only one game per person, only one "putting-in" per person, mainly to give everyone a shot at winning, but also to protect against everyone spamming their entry.

Still looking for anyone with a camera to host, but also maybe some speciall guests? Speeches if you win? A huge problem with a live stream is different time zones, though...

Honestly, a pre-recorded show could be better. I wouldn't mind participating in the show, although my camera isn't that great, and most of my other money is tied up in my work, a camera isn't exactly in the budget. We'll see how getting into school goes and I might be able to get something from that.

Yeah, it's seeming like a live stream would be nearly impossible... oh well. Pre-recorded would mean we could edit it and make sure its un-flawed.

Unless superlatives is the name of some weird thing other than just the "est form", I suppose this could be seen as one. Glad you enjoy the idea .

Well, first order of business would be deciding which categories would actually be used. Then I would have to find someone with a camera to host the show. People would need a way to submit their games to the awards, and the community would need a way to vote, so I could start up a website, unless all that could be done here. After that, I would have to wait until the end of the year so people could get in all of their projects and people would have time to vote.

When all the winners are decided, the winners would have to be messaged asking them to record or write an acceptance speech (if they want to), which would give people an opportunity to say something memorable and thank their fans I'm no professional, but also no slouch when it comes to video editing, so I could put all the announcements and speeches together, with maybe some exclusive game footage or other special events (TDC songs and art? TDC poems? stories?). And of course a flashy intro. Of course, anyone could do editing if they think they have mad skillz.

I could then post the video on YouTube and post a link to it. None of this is for sure, but it seems like a reasonable plan to me. Any suggestions or improvements would be appreciated.

How's this coming along?

I agree with OMC... ditch the "Best People" category. "Angriest member" hardly boosts ones popularity in the community! Also, the "Most/Least in Projects and Downloads" should go.

I have to admit I was thinking of doing something like this a couple of years or so ago, but I was lazy back then and couldn't be bothered
