8th November, 2014 at 08/11/2014 19:48:38 -

Been a while. o_O

I've kept November 8th in mind in the past years since I joined TDC six years ago. Which is to say I've kept in my mind the day I would begin awkwardly noobing about making idiotic posts which would lead to an excited history of posting several unfinished projects that could be compared to scenarios in which a chihuahua attempts to climb skyscrapers by stair. Things haven't changed much.

Unfortunately, I am not putting those ambitions towards games anymore. Which saddens me a little, because I remember starting to duct tape together games in 2006 with my sister using the original Games Factory staring into our loveable, crappy CRT monitors. Then I joined this community after learning a hallowed place for Klik knowledge and community existed! Then MMF2 gets a sequel, time passes, Heart Forth Alicia! pulls off an extremely successful Kickstarter campaign with a beautiful trailer, Five Nights at Freddy's is released to feverish response, Five Nights is getting a sequel, and other stuff and well now I just feel old. :r

But I just lost interest in seriously trying to make Klik games after I eventually came to terms with the facts that I am neither a serious gamer nor the game developer type of guy who has new ideas that would make a game enjoyable as well as unique enough to warrant some acclaim. Since my last post in 2011 I may have learned a few lines more of code and made a few cool little applications to amuse my coding curiosities. Nothing Apollo 11 anymore.

Being 20 now, almost old enough for a legal Guinness, I feel like I'm kind of going through some stupid quarter-life crisis. I joined a Celtic band almost 5 years ago, and now that the leader has (messily) left, someone I looked up greatly to but with whom I am now uncertain concerning our best terms and concerning his own well-being, the whole band-family thing feels emotionally different for me, like falling into a happy little hero-worship well and being fished out with the bucket of reality like it never happened. (And I'd like to forget the last 5 years, but for heaven's sake, he gave me a hammered dulcimer. It's just sitting there in the other room. Watching me. Now tuned above concert-pitch with the cold. Damn real-world metaphors.)

Most of the time in the last 5 years has been invested in music, drawing, and 2D animation and gardening as of late. But at this this point in life, I'm just ready to freaking go back to college, find some enjoyable and well-paying field of study, get a degree, get a job, get a house, save up, do stuff, go somewhere, stay occupied.

All that frustrated crap aside, I just want to say that, despite the fact that I am not officially back, I do remember several of you guys and how you helped me figure tricky coding stuffs out and the competitions, conversations, good times, etc. I remember enjoying several of the games in the Download section and still have them on my computer and may just have to replay some of them in this Kliktuous month. I would also like to make a public apology to Adam/Adamski because I had pointless, misguided beef with him for years and it was my fault entirely and it was childish. I would like to thank him instead for inspiring in me a sense of wit and sarcasm (the apology is sincere, though).

Being the 8th again, I just wanted to drop in and say hi to everyone, new or old, around or not. Rikus, Marko/Radon, OldManClayton, Sumo148, Jon Lambert, Sketchy, s-m-r, Adam, Clickteam Jeff Vance, Strife, Assault Andy, Hayo, Hagar, Chris Street, Knudde(Shab), Clubsoft, BrandonC, Nastyman, Muz, Iamjot, Solgryn, MJK Games, and whoever else I may have forgotten. You guys are all awesome, and I'm glad to see this site is still active!

Cheers,

-Werewoof

Hey OMC! Good to you again, I trust you are still about being magnificent and goofy and whathaveyounot. Yeah, it's bizarre: this dulcimer maker in Georgia just gave it to the guy who gave it to me. Over time he started feeling guilty for not playing the gift often enough so he tried giving it to other people but THEY started feeling guilty for not playing it either so they gave it back to him so then eventually I got it... and now I should really get back to playing it even though it's probably cursed. But if you don't get that dulcimer for Christmas I might be willing to part with mine AND THE GUILT WILL CONTINUE IN ITS NEXT HOOOOOOST

Hey AndyUK, good to see you around too! I apologize, I forgot you... and Siven... and Pantosser... and ChrisD... and Urbanmonk... and probably several others under new names... :r

Rikus!! Glad to see you're here, hope you're doing well yourself! Last night when I logged in I checked the bottom of the homepage to see who was still here but I looked in the wrong section and I was like "NOOOO, RIKUS LEFT, WHY DID THIS HAVE TO HAPP" then I looked again and felt like a total idiot. But a relieved idiot! Awesome times and great memories indeed, glad to see you're still here

It seems kinda strange to miss people over forums but damn, it feels like on big family. I missed you guys, it really is good to see you guys again! I'm gonna have to scrounge through my old MMF2 files now...

I think this is my first post since about February... as you might have guessed I decided to quit being an admin for a while, while I focussed on many other projects - some game related, some photography, and some film based stuff. Great to see that some of the older guys still have the desire to pop back and say hi now and again, and like Rikus, this thread motivated me to return, and reply.

I'm an old man now... I'm 31! I remember joining the community at 16, meaning I've spent half my life in online communities in some capacity. I'm still tinkering around with games but in truth my own dedication to game development has now faded, but I simply do not have as much time on my hands as I used to.

I think it'd be nice to see more returns, and more stories about what our community members have been up to. One of my work colleagues mentioned Five Nights at Freddies, and I kept thinking that it was built with a Clickteam product, so let's hope these success stories help motivate us back into game development!

Hey, good to see you again, Chris! And gracious, I didn't think I could motivate others to return to post... OH DEAR, THIS MOMENT IS SO MUCH MORE THAN ME :'D

Jokes aside, that's cool! I hear you, sometimes you have to take a break or move on from one thing to another to find out what you want to do, whether momentarily or in the long run. Making Klik games can become a serious passion for some people, but while I can't imagine using another 2D-engine, I find it hard to want to start new projects now, given my own experiences with loss of interest, technical-don't-know-how, etc. Still, yeah, it really is motivating to see the success of games like FNAF and it more than puts hope in your heart! Let's see if the success of Klik games like this and more lead to more members on TDC and on the Clickteam forums!

And I don't think I could consider myself an old member, it does feel like I've been here a while... no where near as long as you, though! Nonetheless great to see you and everyone else again

Heya, Pass-tosser, good to you again too! And goodness, that's quite a compliment, thank you I don't know what would define my edge, but I use a lot of black outlines and vibrant colors, if that helps a bit...

Look for tutorials, those help a great deal! Search DeviantArt (but away from its dark corners) for them, I can't tell you how handy that place has been in explaining and revealing techniques, some which can take a while to grasp but are definitely worth trying to get down. And keep drawing out of inspiration and fancy! It can be hard to start drawing if you don't have a specific purpose in mind, as opposed to doodling. Some people can doodle for fun, I find it nearly impossible. :/ But if you can, more power to you!

Anyway, great to see you again, man! ALSO, don't forget to use references when drawing: I used to frown upon them for some reason, but then again I was also monumentally stupid. Using references can be the difference between something looking nice and trichotillomania... especially with hands BECAUSE DRAWING HANDS IS EVIIIIIIL

Hey, good to hear from you. Hope everything's going well
The community is dwindling somewhat, but there are a still a few of the oldies around.
I've more or less given up kliking myself, actually - going to be spending the winter in the Alps, so I'll be skiing instead. I left my other jobs, so I'm just killing time for the next three weeks, which is what brings me here...

You remembered me! *sniff*

Awesome to hear from you! I think the thing I remember the most about you was that animation you made for (i think) the Christmas klikcast, and pomegranates being delicious.

I'm still into kliking, but like most of you here have less time than I used to.

Don't know how "Pass" got in there...

Hey, Sketchy! Hope everything's good with you too, I'm doing okay! Also, now is the perfect time for me to thank you endlessly for the bullet widget: I used that in just about every game I started.

And cool! I've wondered about skiing or snowboarding myself, either sounds awesome. I'm not much of an adrenaline junkie, but I'd rather land on snow than concrete, lol. Anyway, enjoy the time off, be careful, and have fun! OH AND DON'T FORGET THE CAMERA, the Alps have got to be absolutely gorgeous this time of year!

Hello, Hayo, good to see you again! Dude, I love your art style. c:

Hey UrbanMonk, good to see you around too! BUT I ALMOST FORGOT YOU, FORGIVE ME BROTHER

Aw man, I remember that game you made, Planet Chaos, that was a good game! Also, yeah, I remember that podcast! That was so much fun to do: my voice acting was horrible and the microphone was dirt cheap, but it was fun! And, indeed, pomegranates have remained a delicious seasonal addition to my life since then.

Cheers to all you guys, again, it's awesome to see you guys!

No problem! I suppose I'm just easy to forget, or maybe there are just too many people to remember, either way it's cool.
Hey thanks! It was fun to make. I haven't really make anything just for fun in a while, but here is what I have made since you've been away.

If you have an iPhone you could try Rodent Rush, it's free:
http://www.rodentrush.com

Or if you prefer you can play a remake (in flash) of my game Action Slip here:

Glad to see you're still a pomegranate connoisseur.

It's love at first bite Unless of course you bite the rind instead. :r

Don't worry, I forgot several others now that I look around again. Dang it. And cool! I don't have an iPhone or smartphone or etc., but I tried Action Slip: I didn't even beat the first boss. It's a nice little game, though! The art style is consistent and the sound effects definitely add to the feeling of the shots and the impacts. Some of those enemies were really cool, I liked the ones that split apart!

I'm hijacking this shit, too. I'm glad to see people from the old days are still around. I don't know if anyone remembers me, I never released anything worth a crap. I remember Shab, Andy, ol' Mr. Street, etc. I started on this site when I was 13 in 2003. Now I'm nearly 25, and that's amazing to me.
Now I live in New York and work as a video editor/occasional scripting for television. Far away from Click stuff, but it has been interesting.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi Werewoof and all others that have chimed in. Was it you or lazarus that made the mode 7 kart racer?

I recently turned 30 and like Old Man Circy, I also feel old. I went into academia (bachelor and master of science degrees), ventured into work and then went back into academia for a PhD, of which I have now finished. I am now the founder of a scientific instrumentation company and I actually use MMF2 for the company - the DLL object is ace! The company consumes a lot of my time, but I guess that is part of life and growing older.

I got started in the click world many years ago on iklik-it.com with Hayo, Jenswa, Buster and some other clickers who have fallen by the wayside (Vegenad, Ashman, Rycon and more). I think I was about 15 when I joined up and when iklik-it.com closed (the owner tried to sell the site, domain etc) we all transferred here.

Hey, Hagar! Good to see you again That's awesome, good to hear you found some success--with Klik implementation, not to mention! And I think that was Supastix who coded the Mode 7 Kart Racer. If I tried coding something like that I'd probably send the mouse through my head. Lol

Hello W3R3W00F! Yes did leave the community for quite a while, and now I'm not as active as I used to be. Doesn't seem like anyone is anymore. It's a shame. The average quality of games has increased dramatically since I was a regular, yet the forums have become so much less active than they used to be.
