New Feature
News posted 12th July, 2003 by ShadowCaster
At DC we've been having a lot of requests for the ability to rate a game without having to write a review. Well, I've put together a couple of new scripts that will allow you to vote thumbs up or thumbs down for a game. What good will this do, you ask? Well, every game will have their percentage (based on the number of thumbs up) displayed next to the title in the download list, and the games with the highest scores will have their own download list!

Before you start complaining that you voted but nothing happened, a game requires at least 5 votes before the total will be displayed. This will prevent a game from getting 100% (and hence being the top game) after just one vote. And no, you cant vote for a game you submit yourself

Try it out, I hope you all like it, and enjoy using it. If you have questions or comments, you can post them here.

~Mike

Additional: You can now also remove comments you have made in the downloads section.

I just noticed that something goes wrong when your viewing a game while not logged in... I'll try and fix that tonight.

Well thank me to we both came up with the idea;) But thanks to shadow for making the idea a reality, now lets all say together: Shadowcaster Rules!!!

but what about the 343205032 games that are already in the downloads section..nobody will vote for them again, u cant even find the good ones anymore :(

I cant do anything about that... time travel isnt possible, even with my university education.

oh well, we're stuck with it now. it'll take a while for the games to appear on the top list

1 big thing admin. need to watch out for big time is bashing. I've seen on many other sites with this great feature, but if people just happen you get bad at the creator of the game. All they have to do to get to the person is give them a Tumbs down.

Shadow since you implicated that new scripts for thumbs up and thumbs down I can no longer see the links for the downloads, it just says download now. Is this just me or does this happen to other people?

One thumbs down shouldn't matter if the game is good enough, it'll get loads of thumbs up :)

It is a nifty little system, but I hope it doesn't mean people re-posting their games to put them in the spotlight again.

this is truly a great feature.

Good idea, Shadowcaster! Did your uploading the script have anything to do with setting back the DCMail a few days?

Could you possibly have a way to sort by the best thumb rating AND the genre? If so, I may want to give a... donation :)

Posted by jast 13th July, 2003

Nice idea. Although I think the top downloads should be sorted by the percentage of thumbs up - not by the number.

Posted by jast 13th July, 2003

number = amount.

I used to have it done by percentage, but the current way is a lot better in terms of scalability. It doesnt look like it's working well now, but it will once people start voting a lot. I might change it back, though.

Posted by RapidFlash 13th July, 2003

Ah, I see. I got my old DCMail removed.

Do games get taken off the top list if the number of Tumbs down start to over come the number of Tumbs up? Also, if your first 5 votes are tumbs up, your 100% & added to the tops list.:-D
