New Musical Objects
News posted 5th August, 2003 by Shen
OK, we have some new musical extensions ready all of a sudden. Use them and see your game in a new light, or something.

DirectSound by Tigerworks has 128 channels and infinite sample mixing as well as other groovy features in 25k: Forum thread

ModFusion by TwiTerror allows the playback of MOD, IT, S3M, XM, WSF, WTF, and WGM in only 128k runtime: Syntesis

These are both MMF 1.5 extensions. Go get them. Use them wisely.

lol WTF

Both of these look like great extensions, but nither of them support Mp3, and most songs are in mp3. I am not flaming or saying anything bad, just wish they had mp3.

Is WTF a real file type? XD

Correction: DirectSound is NOT a music extension and not intended for playing music or any compressed formats, only small WAV sound effects for your games. Imagine playing MP3 for every sound effect in your game, that would be really slow decompressing every sound!

Did anybody ever released an extension which allow to play MP3s apart from the DMC2 object? I really didn't followed the extension development scene since quite a long while so I'm not sure about that.

DirectShow can play MP3s, it's free to use, no DLLs, no commercial licence. Plays along fine with other audio extensions like DirectSound.

How about adding some ogg support too, next to MP3. Ogg is just as good, but free to use even in commercial stuff!

Hmm nice, it's a pitty it isn't for TGF, but i guess at some point i have to leave TGF and start looking for something better, what o what can it be? But what about compression vs size of the sounds, that would make a nice topic in the forums.

OGG support is also in ModFX 3, did you not pay attention to modfx2 or something you foul demon. OGG is already in ModFX2, although some other parts of that plugin are buggy.
