Andi's TDC Goldmine #5 - Triumph! War 2099
News posted 8th February, 2004 by Andi Smith
Triumph! War 2099 (Submitted: June 2003 - but released before)
If you were to ask me my personal favourite click game of all time, Triumph War 2099 would be it. I love it - and it was only a side project for the brilliant Antony Lopes. Up to four players take on the aliens over 10 levels. You play the commander of the army, and it's your job to command your team into shooting the alien scum. Collect the medals for more troops - be it by air or land and command your troops into battle. Let me know if you also think it's the best click game ever.
Comments from the Author:"You play as 1 of 4 (up to 4 players) Commanders who's mission is to retrieve the Plasma Cannon Energy Crystal from the clutches of an infestation of alien bugs!"

I remember that game, it didn't impress me that much. I mean, eight direction movement? How can you aim?

Just like you did in Smash tv, and pretty much every other old school top down shooter.

you're missing the finer points.. you command ALL the troops. not just your commander.

Over 10 levels my butt, Triumph War 2099 has 9 levels, believe me when my bros came down for the summer they played it over and over, and always wanted to play it, believe me I know this game very well, only 9 levels...

Andi, I agree with you, this is the best Klik game ever simply because it's never been done before with Klik, at least not properly. Sure, the AI is a bit grainy, but the scope of this game is absolutely huge and it's got great replayability even though they're the same levels each time. I still play it, and it's been on my hard drive since July 2003. Since then, I've never even thought of deleting it.

Damon it reads: "Up to four players take on the aliens over 10 levels" meaning there are 10 levels to play on, not over 10 levels. As for the 9 level thing... maybe you didn't find the sekrit 10th level :P lol

by the way - the sekrit 10th level is a JOKE before anyone asks.

Posted by Dark One 8th February, 2004

How do you get it :P?

Posted by Dark One 8th February, 2004

jk, I betcha didn't count before you said there was 10 cause I don't think there is a 10th level :P

Ooh, Triumph, that's really the best click game! I just love that one! The good old times. . . my brother, a friend and me all of us behind one keyboard. . . screaming. . . "No, attack there" or "Stay there!" Ahhh. . . the good ol' times.

Damon - I could have swore there was ten levels, but it has been a while!

This is a good game, this one. Stunning graphics and everything, but very hard, repetitive. Not a great game, but a good one.

with a few friends round your house playing in co-op, this can't be beaten.

This game has three flaws that keep it from being *that* great. 1. The AI is horrible. 2. The challenge level is messed up. It's much easier to beat with four players than with one player. 3. It's extremely repetitive. I will admit it is a good game, but it's not the best click game of all time by any means.

Oh yeah, aiming was crap, I remember lining my self up with them virtically or horizontally. Hey Mr Coffee, of coarse it's much easier with four players, that's the whole point. The thing about multi player games, when working together, is you should be encouraging it. The entire point, is that firstly it encourages players to look for people to play with them, and even if they totally suck, it doesn't matter. The more people that know about your game, the better it's life. The entire point of making freeware software, is to get as many people playing as possible, without penalty. Okay, second point, is that the lack of penalty incourages togetherness, and relationships with others. Games can be cool, but they're no substitute for having someone to chat with. A game like this can be an icebreaker for chatting with chicks. It could be something that brings fathers sons and brothers together without argument. Read "Joeri Pisart (Bloody Jojo)"'s post.

Brign together fathers sons and brothers? Sounds like incest to me. Is that what we're trying to teach kids? Tsk tsk Jon, I am ashamed of you.

And you cant break the ice with a chick by playing Triumph War 2099 you freak.
