GOTW #101 - Tango Strike
News posted 11th September, 2004 by The Chris Street
Tango Strike totally dominated this weeks GOTW poll - so congratulations to Beau of Fallen Angel!

Click here to download the GOTW

This weeks entrants - Planet Wars 3000, Puzzle Bubble Girl, Titan Omega Revelations 1.5, Ball B**tard, and Run Away. A moderate selection, then. Good luck to all.

Eventful Moments Of This Past Week:

  • JD initiating a "24 hour" game making competition at Klik-Me, and submitting his somewhat odd entry Davy Crocketts Revenge here... nearly humourous, but overall, very strange ;)
  • Kevin Smets made a brief appearance in the forums, after a lengthy absence. Go and find the link yourself, you lazy bums.
  • Fire also returns, after a "two year absence". I didn't know that four months was the same as two years ;)

Nah, I downloaded the game a while ago. It's not my type of games. Still, nice done.

I know I'm a litle biased, but should an updated version of a previous GOTW winner really be in the poll?

You're talking about Titan Omega? Well, at first I pondered the issue myself for a while, but in the end I decided to add it solely because the improvements in the game were major. Basically, I didn't like the first edition, but this new one is much much better, so I figured I'd give it a chance to redeem its name ;)

Should be close...oh fuck i'm wasted...even with a ride home...see this is what happens when you take time and consideration over your posts. Most cunts that most here have worse grammar, spelling and sense than me, and yet they are still sober and coherent! Ladies and gents, there is something wrong when people seem less out of it than I am when when posting without the influence of drugs! I'm simply trying to prove the point that drugs arn't bad, and that bad internet practice is worse on social acceptence than being a pissed cunt like yours truely. PS. I'm not voting any game, like PW3000, in particular this week. In conclusion kids, it don't matter how gawn you are, it matters how well you can handle yourself in such situations.

I know a guy on another forum (I think he might even be a lurker here), who is the second-highest poster with something like 10,000 posts, and his typing skill is atrocious. His grammar is impeccable, he just can't spell the same word the same twice in a row. However, after a few drinks he's a regular Frank Herbert.

"so I figured I'd give it a chance to redeem its name" ...but it won last time, so what's to redeem? ;)

aye come to think of it... but TOR1.5 has totally different way of playing than the first. i suppose that half merits it as a new game

Wow...it's only been 4 months since Fire left? I still fondly remember him telling me on his goodbye post: "STFU newbies" or something like that...Good times, good times. ;) Did anyone notice that the only smilies on this page so far are wink things? Wow, I must be really bored right now. :P

Hmmm I don't remember writing that all too well...

Surprise, surprise. Tango was bound to win, and I think it deserved it. TOR 1.5 is definately much, much better but as it already won a GOTW I don't think it should be here. Still, it ain't my decision. Pity my game's not on here :(

Tango Strike DEFINATELY deserved to win. Awesome game. About TOR 1.5, that's a tough call. An earlier version of it has already won GOTW, but its now very very different to that version, so should it be considered a different entry or the same? I would consider it the same entry as the version that already won GOTW, place a supplemental download link in it, or whatever.

    such pressing issues!

Posted by Teapot 13th September, 2004

It has better AI, is faster, has different gameplay mechanics, new enemies and longer levels... bug fix indeed.

Posted by Dr. James MD 13th September, 2004

...new graphics, new bosses, different way of playing alltogether...

Posted by Radix 13th September, 2004

Hence the 1.5 rather than 2.0.

Posted by Dr. James MD 13th September, 2004

it wasnt 2.0 because if i ever did a sequel then that would be more confusing than 1.5

Posted by Radix 13th September, 2004

    That's my point.

Posted by Dr. James MD 13th September, 2004

i dont think it should win no. maybe its because i was out walking but i thought then that if i did win, i'd pass it onto the 2nd place person. but still i think its good its actually in the poll.

Dustin, chill out, relax :S "Well, at first I pondered the issue myself for a while, but in the end I decided to add it solely because the improvements in the game were major. Basically, I didn't like the first edition, but this new one is much much better, so I figured I'd give it a chance to redeem its name" I'm perfectly aware that it's won GOTW already, but as I said, the improvements were so significant. And you also forget, Dustin, at those video game awards the same characters and games win year after year ;)

I fail to see what industry-wide media-controlled commercial game awards have to do with an indie freeware GOTW poll on a relatively small community site, Circy. And yeah, those are sequels.

Wow... I'm not in last place... w00t! ^^
