New Trailer - The Ion Adventures
News posted 11th December, 2006 by The Chris Street
Newt has uploaded to the internet a rather good looking trailer for an upcoming project called The Ion Adventures. And when I say "rather good", I really mean "amazing". Take a look at the trailer by clicking here. Sadly, however, there's not much more information available.

Really awesome. You're becoming a god with Maya

Posted by Silveraura 11th December, 2006

Looks really nice, not a huge fan of the 3D/2D mix in this case, but it looks great never the less. Hope it plays well too, looking forward to it.

Posted by RenatoDep 11th December, 2006

Haha thanks guys, I will have more information soon about the game on it's website.

Posted by DaVince 11th December, 2006

Well constructed site, but if you ask me this could cause some hyping.

Posted by RenatoDep 11th December, 2006

Is that a bad thing?

Posted by Rikus 11th December, 2006

Can't contain myself...faints in amazingness.

go newt!

hehe

awesome! I wish I could do somethin like it

keep up the good work

Posted by axel 11th December, 2006

Really don't like 3D graphics in 2D games, but this game looks quite nice.

Posted by Kirby Smith 11th December, 2006

I'm personally not a big fan of blending 2d and 3d either, but it certainly captures the look Rare games during the SNES/N64 era. The cinematics look really nice though.

Posted by Ski 11th December, 2006

Racism against 3d!

Posted by Retired Kliker Lazarus 11th December, 2006

I think the graphics look kind of cheesy and bad...like that "Santa Saves Christmas" game.

Posted by Aptennap 11th December, 2006

Looks awesome!

Posted by Johnny Look 11th December, 2006

Fucking great.

Posted by RenatoDep 11th December, 2006

Thanks for all the comments guys, also Lazarus (Not Phizzy) Thanks for the comments too, I can't expect that everyone will like my graphics, although I wish the criticism came from someone who actually knew how to do them so I can learn more. But still, sounds good to me.

Posted by Ski 11th December, 2006

Where the hell is Sylvain when you need him? Playing his wii most likely the hamster -.-

Posted by DaVince 11th December, 2006

The graphics look nice and the music sounds good, but that's all really. Gameplay kinda looks pretty standard to me. It isn't a bad thing, but this could just overhype the game and disappoint some people when it comes out.

Posted by renkin 11th December, 2006

Looks ambitious! However, I'm not very fond of pre-rendered 3D either, and I didn't really get a kick out of the gameplay demonstrated by the video. But I won't judge the game before I play it.

Posted by RenatoDep 11th December, 2006

The gameplay is basic, I want it to be a simple platformer, nothing overly complicated where there are 100 buttons to be pressing and 100 things to do at the same time. It's just your old school classic game with better graphics and good story. So yes, the gameplay is quiet standard. You collect crystals, Level Up, learn new attacks, moves and you become stronger to be able to defeat the game.

Posted by RenatoDep 11th December, 2006

Also, I will have an actual description of the game sometime soon. So people don't expect more than it is. Again, simple gameplay to me is key on this project.

Sorry. I'd rather be honest than fake.

The game looks good, I'm just not a fan of the graphic style.

Posted by RenatoDep 11th December, 2006

Again, I take no offense on your comment. That's fine if you don't like it, like i said, I can't expect everyone to like it.

Posted by Reno 11th December, 2006

This looks awsome! omg lulz

Posted by Reno 11th December, 2006

oh I know what i was going to say! It reminds me of the SNES

Posted by Kazuma 11th December, 2006

This doesn't seem like much more than a simple platformer with overly-done graphics.

Posted by Ski 11th December, 2006

How the fuck can they be overly done?... Its not eggs?

Posted by Dr. James MD 11th December, 2006

At first I was quite amazed, but the gameplay looks very basic and the 3D (ingame) looks amateur. But the planet/intro graphics dont.

Posted by Dr. James MD 11th December, 2006

Hah, bit of an F-Zero reference at the end there

Posted by BeamSplashX 11th December, 2006

MORE VIOLENCE.

AND MYSPACE.

Posted by RenatoDep 11th December, 2006

thanks for the comments Jimmi. I have gotten good replies about the graphics from actual professionals in the game industry on which I work with , so I am quiet confident of them. Also all these are still BETA, once the game is actually completed, it will go through an overhall on graphics.

As far as gameplay, I haven't show much. Eventually I'll release actual gameplay videos showing more. I showed no special attacks, no special moves in this trailer.

Again, thanks for the comments and criticisms.

Posted by RenatoDep 11th December, 2006

It will have a myspace page soon

Posted by Dr. James MD 11th December, 2006

Another "no criticism allowed" person I see? So be it. I offered you good and bad instead of "OMG IT RoXXORz" thinking you would find it more helpful. Please tell me how I can offer a better opinion and criticism in the future.

Posted by Sephirenn 11th December, 2006

Yea I'm on the side against mixing the 2D and 3D graphics. In my opinion, it's why your 3D graphics don't look good. They naturally look "amaturish" BECAUSE they are in a 2D pixel-ated environment. I'm sure in the modeler they look much better.

As for the cut-scene, I like it!

Posted by RenatoDep 11th December, 2006

No no, I do take your criticism. I never said I didn't hear your opinion about it. How does it look amateur? That's all, you said it looks amateur and that's it. You can criticize it all you want, but back it up with reasons why you find it so.

Posted by RenatoDep 11th December, 2006

well, 2D game graphics look amateurish too, specially from this site, I have yet to see a professional looking game in a good while. Also, the whole 3D and 2D thing is a matter of opinion and taste. Not on fact.

Posted by RenatoDep 11th December, 2006

offer some constructive criticism at least, instead of shooting it down. If you don't like the 3D on a 2D game, that's fine and there's nothing I can do about that. It's your opinion against mine. But if you're going to shoot it down, back it up, criticize, and offer something actually constructive on how and what I should change and work on.

Posted by Ski 11th December, 2006

like I said earlier, Id like to see others do better. This game is well made, and the animation and character design is also nice. I think people are scared of something different. Not liking 3D sprites in 2d games is personal taste granted, but I can't agree when they're called amaturish. Nu uh. Keep up the good work dear X Ok Im gonna go to bed now and play on my DS

Posted by AndyUK 11th December, 2006

Hey Jimmi, that was a poor piece of critisism anyway.

Posted by RenatoDep 11th December, 2006

By the way, thanks Rikus for the comment. I know how much you've done for the community, and I remember playing your games, specially Locked and its really great to hear you enjoyed the trailer.

Posted by Rikus 11th December, 2006

Thanks Newt no problem. I did love the trailer, from the cut scenes to the playable parts and the 2d mixed with 3d does not bother me one bit, (locked 7 anyone Also the animations in the game itself are of a high quality just look at them and it reminds me of a good solid platformer. Can't wait to play the full thing.

Posted by RenatoDep 11th December, 2006

From now on I'll be updating the site, and the next thing i'll add will be actual gameplay so people can see how the game runs, and later on in february of next year, a playable demo for download.

The 3D work is great, but the fact that they're put in a 2D environment like that just ruins it a little IMO. What I mean is that the art is really good, but it doesn't fit in a 2D game that well.

"well, 2D game graphics look amateurish too, specially from this site, I have yet to see a professional looking game in a good while."

Amateurish compared to what? Many (or most) of the great games on this site are 1980s/NES-style retro games, that have deliberately "simple" graphics, and are rather professional for what they're trying to imitate. Take any GBA game for example; no 3D graphics, does that mean it's not professional?

Also, Jimmi, he never said you weren't allowed to critisize him. Calm down, he even thanked you for your comment, tch.

Posted by 12th December, 2006

...uh, the trailer doesn't work for me!

Posted by Calhoun 12th December, 2006

Bom, irei baixar , pelo que eu realmente vi la video é bem divertido. (oque ganha é o post em português ) hehe, vamos ver []';

Posted by Ski 12th December, 2006

omg french.

Posted by Kazuma 12th December, 2006

@-:Adam:-: The graphics look to complicated for such a simple game.

Posted by Ski 12th December, 2006

How can graphics be too complicated just because its simple gameplay? crying out loud ppl.

Posted by Windybeard Games 12th December, 2006

How can anyone complain about the gfx, its one of the best looking games ive ever seen around here.

PS:looks like donkey kong and i LOVE!!!! them games, simple gameplay is a good idea

Posted by RenatoDep 12th December, 2006

Yea I honestly don't get some people. As far as not liking 3D graphics, that's fine it's just a matter of taste, but overly done graphics is ridiculous, I suppose lots of the Playstation, Sega Saturn platformers i've played had overly done graphics and should be baned!

Posted by RenatoDep 12th December, 2006

Not french Adam..lol Portuguese

Posted by Ski 12th December, 2006

Obviously it was a joke

Posted by RenatoDep 12th December, 2006

uh hu!!

Posted by Ski 12th December, 2006

Cadela dum raio do deus.

Posted by RenatoDep 12th December, 2006

hahahahahaha

Posted by David Newton (DavidN) 12th December, 2006

I think the 3D graphics work surprisingly well in the 2D environment, myself - far better than any other Click game that merged the two, anyway.

Posted by RenatoDep 12th December, 2006

thank you David

Posted by BeamSplashX 12th December, 2006

What was that one demo called? Zombies Now? That looked pretty bad.

Posted by Ski 12th December, 2006

omg I said it looked awesome and never got a thankyou. Fine, be that way, last time I make you 3d graphics in maya!

Posted by RenatoDep 12th December, 2006

thank you adam i've thanked you plenty on MSN bitch!

Posted by Ski 12th December, 2006

And now in public. Splendid I like the look of that boat in water by the way =

Posted by renkin 13th December, 2006

I think what many mean with overly done graphics is that when you have really detailed and smoothly animated 3D-models in a static context like that, there follows a sense of stiffness and inconsistency (this is my opinion). There's a clash when the interaction between things isn't as smooth as the visual presentation of the entities themselves. It's quite subtle and hard to explain, but it's there in almost every game with pre-rendered 3D that I've played. If you don't understand what I mean I can try to come up with an example.

Posted by DaVince 13th December, 2006

Wow, this 60 comments without a flamewar.

Posted by RenatoDep 13th December, 2006

shhh!!!! Although I must thank you guys! It's my first game in ages, so it's been great so far.

Posted by Klikmaster 13th December, 2006

It doesn't look that bad, you are very skilled at the 3d stuff, however, I have to agree with the 3d/2d mixing putting me off a bit. Hey, I'm not saying your stuff suck, ok? Just my opinion. It's mostly because the 3d stuff is too shiney. Shiney bad.

Posted by BeamSplashX 13th December, 2006

If I did 3D, I'd probably do PSX style graphics on purpose. Something about their jagginess that I find appealing. Of course, it'd look like trite crap in this game, so don't think I'm trying to advise you or anything.

WHAT RAMBULATION.

Posted by RenatoDep 14th December, 2006

Klikmaster, could you point out where the 3D is too shiny. No, I'm not mad, just asking your opinion so I can see and maybe fix it if I find it's needed. Thanks

Posted by Kazuma 15th December, 2006

@-:Adam:-: The graphics just look like too much, thus ugly. That's my opinion. God damn.
