Talking Topic #7
News posted 7th March, 2007 by The Chris Street
What one thing would you like to see next from Clickteam?

This is the discussion for this weeks Talking Topic!

It could be anything, really. You might want to see a future build of MMF2 with an improved platform engine, or maybe a better graphics editor? A new Vitalize release perhaps? Maybe MMF 3D? Don't get greedy, only say one idea!

Please submit your opinions in the comments thread. Remember to keep things clean, and please respect the opinions of other individuals. And, if you have any ideas for the Talking Topic, feel free to mail them to me! Happy debating!

MMF3 with all of the extensions for 1.5 and 2 combined, with an improved version the old graphics editor

Posted by nim 7th March, 2007

I'm looking forward to the 2D physics extension most.

Posted by ZeroTau[FA] 7th March, 2007

Hardware acceleration, dammit.

And more effects, and multiple ink effects for objects. I should be able to make a black & white object transparent at will! And yes, I've been in the situation.

Posted by axel 7th March, 2007

Why are everyone complaining about the MMF2 picture/anim editor? I think it's just perfect.

Posted by Lukas Hägg 7th March, 2007

Hardware acceleration and time/second-based animations!

Posted by Green Gnome 7th March, 2007

I'm not sure if it's possible actually but I'd like to be able to animate active objects using .bmp files where I got a grid of pictures as frames for the animation.

Posted by Green Gnome 7th March, 2007

Oh, and I'd love it if they'd clean up the trash code it generates. It slows down the games so horribly.

Posted by RenatoDep 7th March, 2007

Hardware acceleration, Be able to make a global engine and not a frame based one where if you change your engine you have to change all frames. That's very annoying how it is right now.

VITALIZE 4. Nothing more For closest 2 years ;p

Posted by Blueberry 7th March, 2007

Hardware acceleration

Posted by DaVince 7th March, 2007

VITALIZE 4 with hardware acceleration and more optimized code.

Err...

How about MMF3 with Paintshop Pro/Photoshop (your preference...) integrated and included as a freebie?

Posted by Neuro 7th March, 2007

I agree with Nim, a 2d physics extension would be damn cool!

In-engine 360 degree rotation for active objects, so you could make one active object and treat it as one, with animations, actions, sprite collisions etc, but it can rotate 360 degrees and only have one picture 'saved' in the engine, not 360 seperate pictures!

An improved built-in "GTA-like" car movement engine to take advantage of this, with skidding and friction

A faster top speed for things without using custom movements, say like having the same speeds as now but it can go up to speed 1000, which would make making fast-moving lasers in space combat games a lot easier

A built-in "minimap" which is essentially a box that can show a more-zoomed out view or general overview of the frame or a larger area of the frame than the player can see. Perhaps with certian objects "only visible in mini-map", so you could have MGS-like 'view cones' for people which 'exist' in the actual map but can only be seen on the mini-map

A quick way of "remembering everything in the frame" so you could easily make switching to a menu or inventory and then returning to playing 'the level' and finding everything as you left it

An object/extension that allows one to insert a resizable window which displays a certain zone of the level area equal in size to the object. Like "cameras" in 3D.

Posted by Pkeod 7th March, 2007

"In-engine 360 degree rotation for active objects" MMF2 already has that...?

Posted by MJK 7th March, 2007

Vitalize 4 indeed.

Some mobile platform support for MMF2 would be nice too.

Posted by DaVince 7th March, 2007

LOL, he didn't know about the power of angles in MMF2!

Posted by Johnny Look 7th March, 2007

I think it's perfectly possible to keep MMF's simplicity, but with 3D support. I mean, there should be 2 versions: MMF2D and MMF3D.

Man, that would sooooo awesome.

Active Pictures in MMF 1.5 Actives with 360 degrees

Posted by 7th March, 2007

The INK effect SDK.

Posted by X_Sheep 7th March, 2007

Vitalize 4.

"Hardware acceleration, Be able to make a global engine and not a frame based one where if you change your engine you have to change all frames. That's very annoying how it is right now."

You don't have to do that. You just need to use a custom level loader format.

Posted by DaVince 7th March, 2007

Scripting. Preferably in an easy and flexible syntax like Javascript. Only better implemented than Jamascript.

Posted by axel 7th March, 2007

Well, there's always the Lua object? Don't like the Lua syntax that much though

Posted by axel 7th March, 2007

But yes, something with a syntax like the C/C++/Java family would be nice.

Posted by Superfunk 7th March, 2007

MMF 3D! But still being capable of 2D.

Posted by Reno 7th March, 2007

forget all that, MMF2 with MMF1's graphics editor is all I desire

Posted by Muz 7th March, 2007

Yup, scripting. Not anything annoying like Lua, I want it to be directly translated from the events. E.g:
When player press "Space bar", "Active0" shoots "Active1" at speed 100

would translate to

pressed("space")
Active0: shoot(Active1,100)

Something simple that MMF3/2.5 would translate direct from the event editor. That could save me a hell lot of time from copying and editing events. People who liked the event editor could still use it, but it'll probably be an obsolete feature once there's a script editor, like what happened with the Step-Through editor.

Posted by axel 8th March, 2007

*agrees with Phizzy*

Posted by DaVince 8th March, 2007

Me too. It will make the program look like GM though.

Posted by Hill Gigas 8th March, 2007

MMF 3D. Period.

Posted by ben mercer 8th March, 2007

Hardware acceleration. Once clickteam use D3D to accelerate the graphics engine they are also more likely to consider the possibility of making the gfx full 3d.

I am going to be greedy and say i'd also like to see some more versatile collision detection, that can handle looping by itself (it would be faster than looping in mmf events) and return the point of collision.

I'd also like to see the ink effect SDK arrive at some point.

Posted by Muz 9th March, 2007

Feh, MMF2's already starting to look like VB, might as well toss in a script editor to finish the job .

Oh, and to be ultimately greedy, I want all the bugs out of it. At least all the bugs that keep messing up things whenever I try to do something time-sensitive or something that works on everything at once like a physics engine or a scripting engine.

Posted by axel 9th March, 2007

Not to mention all the logic flaws that you have to get around when coding really complex things in MMF.

Posted by DaVince 10th March, 2007

Seriously though; Vitalize 4.

Posted by falkon 10th March, 2007

mmf 3d

Posted by Plooscva 11th March, 2007

Vitalize 4... finish it already!

Posted by Koth 13th March, 2007

more french logic!
