New Game: Knytt Stories
News posted 28th August, 2007 by Flava
After the fairly popular game Knytt, Nifflas has just released the next installment called Knytt Stories. This game is actually quite different - mainly in that you play levels that others have created. You can create your own level with your own story, or download other stories that others have created. It's a great idea and it's really easy to create and share your own levels - so give it a try. There is a tutorial level and a level called "The machine" included, and you can download an expansion pack for more levels.

Comments from the author: Knytt Stories doesn't have a specific plot. Instead, each level is its own little adventure. A level called 'The Machine' is included with the game, where you have to stop a machine that draws the life out of the planet. An official expansion pack is also featured at the website with four original levels.

Hmm, I thought Nifflas was going to wait until August 30 to release this! Oh well, it's great (I was/am a beta-tester)!

Nifflas got bored and decided to release it 2 days early

Aww, even the installer is cute as a button.

Posted by markno2 28th August, 2007

Why doesn't he submit this here?

Posted by Dr. James MD 28th August, 2007

Because last time it was up here the usuals appeared and Nifflas took it down.

Posted by Tim 28th August, 2007

Yeah... a mixture of people slating it and Nifflas getting upset etc.

Posted by axel 28th August, 2007

Just beat the first story on easy mode. Wow, the trip back home after you'd switched off the machine... Simply mesmerizing. And the ghost area!

This game is going to keep me occupied for a while.

Same as axel I'm just amazed !
Probably the best 2D game I ever played.

Posted by TheoX 28th August, 2007

Yeah! Don't forget about the extra levels that are downloadable from Nifflas' website! I made the easy one called Blockland.

Posted by DaVince 28th August, 2007

Daaaaamn. This game ROCKS, and its extendability is a GREAT thing.

Hey, I wonder what I can do with this red key hidden in the "you won" screen in the original level... I didn't see a red keyhole anywhere!

DaVince: STOP POSTING OBVIOUS SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTS!!! Anyway.. It was absolutely fantastic! The only drawback is that you finnish the first level in an hour, but that will be compensated by all the third party levels that soon will be all over us!

Posted by DaVince 28th August, 2007

But it's not a spoiler, just a secret!

Posted by 28th August, 2007

Yeah, I couldn't find a use for it either.

Yes he is!

Expansion pack #1 has an awesome level called Chamber of Trials. It's one of my favorites so far.

It's a bad sign, this could have helped TDC in a lot of ways..

Posted by TheoX 29th August, 2007

What do you mean?

Posted by X_Sheep 29th August, 2007

The fact that people at TDC are too much of asshats for Nifflas to submit this here?

Posted by Johnny Look 29th August, 2007

actually it's kinda childish not to submit a download just cuz of a few assholes.

Posted by DaVince 29th August, 2007

I don't get why anyone would dislike the game if the things you fixed and changed are exactly what those people nagged about.

So put it on TDC. Like, now.

Posted by Nicklas_N 29th August, 2007

DavidN helped me retrieve my password, so I could submit the game to TDC.

>actually it's kinda childish not to submit a download just cuz of a few assholes.

I dunno, it's just that on no other site than TDC, people actually said stuff equivalent of "fuck you" to me in the actual reviews. But yeah, I did overreact a bit and I suppose I have to put out with those.

>I don't get why anyone would dislike the game if the things you fixed and changed are exactly what those people nagged about.

The thing is, I don't really care that much about whenever people like my games at TDC or not. I didn't "fix" anything in Knytt Stories, because Knytt was and is still exactly what I wanted it to be. It's a solid fact that I will sooner or later release another pure ambient game without challenge - because I simply like that a lot. When I do that, I know that that people will be disappointed and a lot of people won't like it (which I fully respect), but that time I want to be treated with respect (I expect everyone who submit games to not be called an idiot, because this is not American Idol).

Posted by Nicklas_N 29th August, 2007

Oh, and I will submit the game, probably tomorrow

Posted by Ski 29th August, 2007

Nifflas! <3

Posted by Dr. James MD 29th August, 2007

I beat the first game today.

The whole "story" aspect is fantastic. I don't think the atmosphere in The Machine is as good as Knytt 1. It's definitely more traditional so I can imagine a lot more people enjoying it.

Posted by DaVince 29th August, 2007

Well, Nifflas, at least it's good to see you don't hold a grudge against the sane part of the community.

Okay, so I found the red keyhole. Turns out I need THREE more keys. Where the hell would those be, though? I know there's a secret area near the fall-between-the-spikes in the snow part, but it seems impossible to reach.

Posted by Johnny Look 29th August, 2007

just tell them to stfu then

Posted by Fragasnap 29th August, 2007

Curse you DaVince! I have found all keys, but not the key holes!

I can help you with yours if you help me find the key holes...
DC mail me if you want...

Posted by Nicklas_N 29th August, 2007

Look for a cave with Ninjas...

Posted by Fragasnap 29th August, 2007

Thanks Nicklas, I saw it before, makes me wonder why I forgot

DaVince: If you still haven't found the yellow key yet you're in the right place, but you're looking the wrong way.
