Two Klik Games in the IGF Finalists
News posted 3rd December, 2007 by Broomie

I'm happy to announce that two klik games, Fret Nice and Noitu Love 2: Devolution have made it through to the finalists of the 10th Annual Independent Game Festival Awards, a prestigious gaming event to encourage innovation in game development and to recognize the best independent game developers. Noitu Love 2: Devolution is up for the Seumas McNally Grand Prize whilst Fret Nice is up for two awards, Design in Innovation and Excellence in Audio. Seeing as Sony and Microsoft are sponsoring this we could be seeing a huge step towards bringing klik games on the home console and also give much recognition to the designers too.

Regardless of the fact that Noitu Love 2 is still in the works, it's no lie that this video is a huge indicator that it's worthy of the prize already.

The ceremony will be held on the 20th February 2008, so we wish the best of luck to both ZeroTau and Mårten in taking home the prize.

To find out more, click here. Thanks to Noyb for the head's up.

And on a further note, the 2008 IGF Student Competition will also announce their finalists and among some of the potentials is James Whitehead's much anticipated platformer, Tormishire and previous GOTW winner, Zenek Zombie by McO. Keep checking back as they're scheduled to be announced very soon but in the meantime good luck to James, McO and to anyone else who is involved!

You can view the entries here.

What? No good luck to me student IGF finalists are announced on the 16th or something.

If I'm a finalist I'll release a Tormi demo

Posted by Broomie 3rd December, 2007

Sorry about that James, I didn't realize. I've added it now.

Posted by Joe.H 3rd December, 2007

Noitu 2 looks awesome.

Posted by Tim 3rd December, 2007

*most anticipated

Posted by 3rd December, 2007

No, Fret Nice isn't up for download there. All links to it were removed from the whole internet.

Posted by Dr. James MD 3rd December, 2007

Why did they do that?

Posted by 3rd December, 2007

Some kind of publisher demand maybe?

Posted by Ski 3rd December, 2007

I loved Noitu 1 and the second looks awesome...shame it went to his head, lol.

Posted by ZeroTau[FA] 3rd December, 2007

It went to my head?

Posted by Ski 3rd December, 2007

Lol, as if by magic, out of the woodwork!

Posted by Dustin Gunn 3rd December, 2007

lol!

Posted by Jason Orme 3rd December, 2007

where can I get a demo of Noitu Love 2, i've seen the 1 video of a boss battle but the game is such an inspiration. Good Luck!

Awww, Adam's jealous?

Posted by axel 4th December, 2007

<quote>Thanks to Noyb for the head's up.</quote>

Do you admins even visit this site anymore? I posted about this on the forums yesterday, pshhht! <_<

Heh, just kidding. Congratulations to Zerotau and Mårten. Seriously, good luck to you guys!

Posted by Ski 4th December, 2007

Im not jealous at all, Ive already said I loved Noitu and Zerotau has made some great games, but let's face it, if any one's going to be jealous surely it's going to be the talentless ones, right axel?

Posted by Tim 4th December, 2007

Now now, that's enough children.

Posted by axel 4th December, 2007

Well, you know, it's like they say: "those that can't create criticize". Eh, Adam?

Posted by viva/volt 4th December, 2007

And as they say "Oh snap!"

Posted by DaVince 4th December, 2007

Aside from the sudden hostility between Axel and Adam (who are both very capable of making a game I might add), I don't see how Noitu Love 1 went to his head.

Can't wait for NL2! (Well, I can, but you know what I mean. )

Posted by 4th December, 2007

Adam's very capable of making a game? When did this happen?

Posted by DaVince 4th December, 2007

Woop, sorry, I confused him with Jimmi there for a sec. That always happens to me. I've seen Tormishire stuff after all. <_<

I dunno how good Adam is with games, so I won't judge that.

Posted by Dr. James MD 4th December, 2007

In Adam's defence he is a very talented artist and working on a good looking game.

"those that can't create criticize" I've never understood that. I always considered criticism of self and of others work a great way to progress. It's a foundation of the creative process.

Posted by X_Sheep 4th December, 2007

Yes, but that's criticism of the constructive kind. I think that the mostly unhelpful criticism comes from people that can't create.

Posted by Del Duio 4th December, 2007

"those that can't create criticize"

Doesn't Steve has this slogan on a bumpersticker?

Posted by Del Duio 4th December, 2007

*have

Engrish FTW

Posted by nim 4th December, 2007

Congratulations!

Posted by Guru Rinpoche 4th December, 2007

Most of those games look loco-roco-ish, which certain takes a lot of skill and creativity to make, but I imagine they get boring FAST.

Posted by viva/volt 4th December, 2007

Congratulation! A winner is you! <Insert old internet meme>!

Err, yea... Noitu Love 2 looks awesome, I don't know how people can say ZeroTau let it get to his head, I've seen nothing of the sort.

Anyway, Noitu Love 2, Fret Nice and Tormishire FTW!

Posted by danjo 4th December, 2007

i thought Noitu looks completely boring, and really outdated considering the talent behind it.

Posted by Tim 4th December, 2007

Who cares if it did go to his head anyways?! If it did, then he somewhat deserves to be proud of his creations... though humility is always a better quality to adopt over haughtiness..

But really, do we all actually care? I dont! :\

Adam's a crazily good artist... It's just a shame he keeps abadoning games that he starts (you know what I'm talking about Adam! )

Whilst everyone here makes a valid point... let's shut up now yeah? lol. The hostility here is bad enough as it is, without causing more friction between members -_-

Posted by Ski 4th December, 2007

That sheep game you wanted me to work on with you? o_O

Posted by Jimbob 4th December, 2007

Nice to know someone reads my news .

In other news, me and Adam are releasing a small game soon.

Posted by Tim 4th December, 2007

Yes, and you know the name of it Adam ;_;

Posted by Ski 4th December, 2007

LOL! ;_:

Posted by Tim 4th December, 2007

;_;

Posted by 4th December, 2007

'It's just a shame he keeps abadoning games that he starts'

Yeah, what happened to ORANGE JUICE!?

Wow that game deserves to win! Something like that would tempt me into buying a tablet PC.

Posted by AndyUK 4th December, 2007

"In Adam's defence he is a very talented artist and working on a good looking game."

Thats a terrible defence. How is talent related to how much of an arse you can be to people?

Posted by 4th December, 2007

Nice, looks like LittleBigPlanet.

Posted by Fanotherpg 4th December, 2007

I informed Broomie about one more Klik game in Student IGF or how you want to call it (Zenek Zombie) but like for now he didn't update the news : (

Posted by Joe.H 4th December, 2007

James: I saw something like that at a Bolton Uni open day about 3 years ago.

Posted by Dr. James MD 4th December, 2007

"Thats a terrible defence. How is talent related to how much of an arse you can be to people? "

It wasn't in defence of that.

Posted by 4th December, 2007

In my opinion, one thing is talent and the other, yourself.
If people were judged by how they were as people, Wagner and Bacon would've been bitched to death.

Regardless, Adam is very talented and he's not much of an ass, as I can see. W/e.

Posted by Ski 4th December, 2007

Oh is he still whining? lol

Posted by AndyUK 4th December, 2007

Sorry, i think i read some things wrong.

Posted by Fanotherpg 4th December, 2007

Thanks for adding mention about Zenek Zombie

Posted by Tim 4th December, 2007

I forgive you on behalf of everyone Andy

Posted by Liquixcat 5th December, 2007

You're all talented, that is why you are here. Now shut the hell up.

Good job Zero even though you've always been a whining brat. Good job Jimmi also, you are definitely a creative leader even if we hardly talk anymore. I don't know what Fret Nice is and it's apparently undownloadable so that's retarded and it should not be nominated.

Posted by The Chris Street 5th December, 2007

I think Fret Nice is a platformer which is controlled by using the Xbox360 guitar controller for Guitar Hero 2/3.

Posted by 5th December, 2007

I don't know what Fret Nice is and it's apparently undownloadable so that's retarded and it should not be nominated.

I suppose that means that Tormishire shouldn't be considered, either? And Aquaria should've been ignored last year?

Posted by »xerus 5th December, 2007

Go klik games! ;D

Posted by Superfunk 5th December, 2007

I didn't een know of any Noitu Love 2. It looks awesome!

Posted by Dr. James MD 5th December, 2007

Demo's are allowed in IGF.

I thought Fret Nice was controlled using the PS2 controller through an adapter?

You're never on MSN LC!

Posted by Liquixcat 5th December, 2007

Yeah sorry Jimmi, I'm a working man. You're on my facebook though it can be used for messaging.

To unknown poster (?)
No, as I know what those two games are and what I know is all that is important.

Is Aquaria even a klik game?

Posted by Broomie 5th December, 2007

Aquaria is a klik game, made by Derek Yu. One of the guys behind Eternal Daughter. It looks very good!

Posted by axel 5th December, 2007

Err, sorry Broomie, but Aquaria is not a klik game. It's all pure C++ and OpenGL. Derek Yu is the genius behind all the graphical goodness, but the game is put together by Alec Holowka, who's also responsible for the soundtrack.

Still, not klik.

Posted by --Tom-- 7th December, 2007

This is great news for klik! I wish the best of luck to both Joakim and Mårten!

Posted by Dustin Gunn 9th December, 2007

not yet

Posted by Broomie 18th December, 2007

Ah, I thought it was. Nevermind.
