Newsgrounds brings Adshare
News posted 10th May, 2009 by Rob Rule
Big news for all indie gamemakers looking to get financial reward from their hard work - Newsgrounds has recently unveiled its new 'Adshare' scheme, a move which will see all content providers get a cut of the revenue, without having to feature advertisements within their games.

From Newsgrounds founder, Tom Fulp: Starting today, we are using this system to track ad revenue on user, non-adult Flash and Audio pages. If you are interested in participating in this new rev-share program, simply visit your account options page - look for the "Revenue" box and follow the instructions to sign-up!

And with Clickteam's upcoming Flash runtime, klikers can soon get in on the action, too!

Who would think we would ever see the newgrounds logo on the TDC frontpage!

It's a mad, mad world.

I also can't wait for the flash runtime, half because it should increase MMF's popularity hugely, half because of the dream that certain klik classics could get a whole new audience.

I forgot about the Flash runtime! Now I can't wait for it

Whoa that's kinda awesome. A whole load of people are going to be accused of all sorts. Remember - if you work in the media industry and make money you're a sellout.

James, you know what to do- you're Red friend is waiting.

Posted by Codemonkey 10th May, 2009

I hope that doesn't mean what I think.

Sounds great, but I'm hoping this doesn't bring the demise of free downloadable Indie games. For some reason, I just like being able to download things and play them.
Some sort of OCD thing, I swear.

Posted by OMC 10th May, 2009

I like downloadable stuff too, it won't disappear.

Posted by Dr. James MD 10th May, 2009

It won't mean the end of downloads, but a lot of people like browser games. Back at college and uni if the weather was crappy (hello, Manchester) folk would stay in and play browser games.

I wish we could get a beta some time soon though!

Posted by Rob Rule 11th May, 2009

Lol at Cecil - you wouldn't believe the amount of times I've slipped up on that one. I'll get it changed.

not that i want to be a party pooper - but didn't they say it would take a long time before the flash thing would be finished?

Posted by Jon Lambert 11th May, 2009

They actually said in this summer.

Posted by X_Sheep 12th May, 2009

I can imagine quite a few Newgrounds-visitors being unhappy with the MMF Flash runtime for no reason.

Ah well.

Posted by Hayo 12th May, 2009

It is still called Newsgrounds btw. Can it be changed soonish?

Posted by ELC_Games 12th May, 2009

Wait, has Clickteam got this checked out? The fact that people could make flash games easier and for less money wouldn't be good for Adobe's revenue. Will the flash runtime cost additional money?

At any rate, I am awaiting the release of the runtime with anticipation!

Hayo: There's a bug with editing news posts atm, so I'm reluctant to do so. Best to just chalk it down as my mistake and move on with our lives.

ELC: Francois has said in interviews that there may be a license fee for users, iirc. I guess we'll see.
