Yea I don't even know why but I can't get the memory requirement under 50mb. I've made all the songs Play From Disk, removed all the unnecessary graphics and trimmed about half the left over events from Tormi! It's a bit annoying. I've even done some tests like removing all backdrop objects and even required actives, and deactivated all the events but still the lowest it goes it 45mb.

Ho hum. It runs well on my old system though, put an object limit on the particles (which could cause some slowdown) so thats good.

Still need to add 2 more songs and do some testing. I've gone through today and added a Bloom effect (since it works really well with the art) which is nice.

Had to rush my gran into the hospital last night too so it'll be an extra day or so now. But it was nowt serious.

(sorry for the small image, it's ripped from my blog and silly me forgot to make the image full size in Windows Live Writer.)

why is everyone saying it looks good? I don't get what you're seeing?

TDC has a lot of Knytt fans

"TDC has a lot of Knytt fans "

Yes it seems Knytt was the only platformer ever and had a monochrome style.
Are we seeing the extent of your intellect again?

I know, I was wrong James. Knytt has more details, I guess. Echoing what AndyUK says, at the moment I don't understand the excitement, I honestly thought these were perhaps place holder graphics

More details maybe, but not as pretty, shiny, or amusing. Besides, James has gaming experience. The graphics don't need to be excellent to enjoy a game you know.

You know, my comment wasn't really aimed at the game, more at the other comments.
The game is intentionally minimalistic, im sure.

I just get the feeling people say 'looks good' as a kind of default response. It wouldn't hurt to add a few extra words in there. Maybe some real feedback!?

I would give decent feedback, even constructive critisism, but I don't see any flaws, and just saying, "I like the colors, the silhouette foreground, bla bla bla" just doesn't sound like feedback at all. It's minimal, but so good looking, that it's hard to give decent feedback let alone constructive critisism.

Not all of it is minimal either. The graphics are simplified though - it's how I'm able to squeeze out a fairly large world map in 2 weeks time. But there are lots of effects going on; the sky colour changes depending on height position like in Turrican, a HWA version of the weather engine in Tormi, dynamic lighting. It's just middle and foreground stuff silhouetted, like looking at a dark object infront of a bright skyline. Well that's kinda what the game was designed around (dusk).
Some backgrounds have colours and textures. And lights with bloom are visible on the foreground.

I guess it's one of those games that looks better in motion. I'll be sure to give it a go when it's done anyway.
