Block Master is my first professional looking game and will be Freeware. The game has been in development now for several years, I've never really created a game passed the early demo stage before so Block Master has been an amazing achivement and i'm very proud of the work i've done so far. I don't have a great deal of spare time to devote to Block Master but i try and invest a few hours every couple of weeks.

I'm creating Block Master with The Games Factory & Multimedia Fusion 2 software. Currently i'm building Block Master in TGF but i will eventually convert to MMF 2 once i feel confident enough to use it as i realise i'm missing out on key elements like alpha channels and sound over frames. Codeing isn't my strong area but i'm very creative so i'm hopeing visually my drawing ability will compensate for the codeing. My drawings & animations will be created in Flash and exported into TGF. Flash is my preferred drawing tool, i'm hopeing this will allow me to create a professional cartoon finish which will stand out from the average Click game.

The in game Music is going to be composed by the talented Johan Hargne. I'm also dabbling in Audacity to create and mix sound effects for Block Master.

Level design & Game play is somthing i have taken considerable care. I have 6 game testers who regularly play test Block Master and feed back to me on a regular basis, even after the smallest of changes. One of my game testers is my 8 year sister, this helps me check the games difficulty and puzzle solveing elements to see how challenging they are for all age's although despite the cute graphics i'm developing Block Master for mature gamer. I've received some great feed back and i'm always looking for new ways to improve the game design and the games mechanics.

Three retro titles that have had a tremendous influence on this project are:

& MS PACMAN

The 1979 Atari game, Adventure was the God father of puzzle exploration/RPG. You need to seriously check this game out if you've never heard of it. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=WE6MSXqouSk this is where the original idea came from for Block Master, big open planned rooms and maze's with keys and items to aid you on your quest. Basically a big focus on exploration and puzzle solveing. This is the foundation i've aimed for keeping to the simplistic nature.

The 1984 game Boulder Dash on the Commodore 64 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwM1cDu6zew is one of my all time favorite games although simple is a very challenging little puzzle arcade style game. I'm particularly fond of the enemies in Boulder Dash the way they move and how they effect the game play. The Level design is of a very high quality with traps and puzzles in all the right places its just a master peace! I want to keep to the same formula with Block Master but still maintaining originality. I'm sure your see the influences from both games once Block Master is released.

Block Master is basically a puzzle adventure arcade style game with retro level design using a lives system. Trial & error and exploration will play a huge role in completing each stage, you must guide the little Block characters through the strategic mazes avoiding obstacles and out smarting the enemies to reach the goal. Items and power ups will also play a critical role in completeing certain levels too. The Player Use's the mouse to control the Block characters this adds an interesting level of difficulty to the mix. Click games also don't genuinely use the mouse so it makes for a very original concept and adds to the originality. The game will feature at least 12 fully playable levels, 1 secret hiden maze and a Boss stage. The story is evolving & still a working progress. I'll try and update my blog as often as necessary so please watch this space.

Block Master is still very much in development. Not worked on the game for well over a year but since Christmas, I have invested a significant amount of time on the project again. I will hopefully release some new video footage on YouTube very soon.

I should really create a new project page as the game has really evolved from my previous vision.
