Project Overview
Preview Image

Atrox Online is a MMORPG in development by the same creator of the uber awesome black and white platformer Little Ghost Joe.
Inspired by games such as Ultima Online and the likes, our objective is to introduce unique gameplay mechanics and at the same time create a immersive and accessible world.
Our biggest concern is to give the player as much freedom as possible, in every aspect of the game.

Please note that the screenshot is showcasing a very early version of the game, so as you might imagine the players aren't supposed to go around naked.

Atrox Online 0.21 Open Source released
Posted 27th Nov 10, by Johnny Look 3 Comments
As I said in the previous devlog, Atrox Online is now open source.

The current version of the game is mainly for testing purposes.
We decided to stop being dependent on the public servers such as aquadasoft's and klikfarm's and let the users host their own servers.
That means that if you want to test out the game, you'll have to host it yourself using the included Server application or use someone else's server.

There's not a lot of new stuff in the game, mostly bug fixes and code cleaning.

The source files (Client, Server, Updater and Configuration utility) are all included in the package.

You may download the game here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?fba38p03cji0ajz

(zip file, no installer)

You can also find the new forum over here:

We are looking for people willing to host a server regularly, so if you're up to it let me know.
Atrox Online going Open Source
Posted 19th Nov 10, by Johnny Look 4 Comments
This is something I've been thinking about for a long time.

Atrox Online will be back, but this time as open source software.
This means the mfa(mmf2) file will be released for the public so everyone will be able to look at it and hopefully learn from it.

Another of the main reason for this decision is also to try to find some more contributors and therefore help the project move forward.
I don't have a huge lot of time to dedicate to it, but I'll try to make some regular updates from time to time.

The new forum will open soon and since the latest version doesn't work anymore I'll be releasing a small update with the last lacewing version, and of course the full mfa source files.

There's a lot to be done until the game reaches beta stages but if a lot of people try to contribute, even if only with ideas, then I'm confident this project can go far.

New version is out !

EDIT: There was a huge bug in the overworld map, if you downloaded the old version please download it again, thanks

It took a while but here it is, finally.

Even though I can't recall everything that was added and changed in this version, here's a small list of some of the major improvements over the older version (0.14):

-Totally new Combat System (Now turn based)
-New Maps, Quests,Enemies, and NPCs
-New Soundtrack
-Performance greatly improved
-A huge load of bug fixes
-Switch to Lacewing
-And much more

Looking at the list it doesn't look like there's that many changes, but I'm sure you'll notice a huge lot changed since last time.

You may download the new version here:

Also don't forget that it's still a beta so don't judge it as if it was the full version, even though this version is much more complete than the last one and now actually feels like a game and not some sort of interactive IM program unlike the older version.
New screenshots

I'm now finishing the last version so I thought I'd post some screenies:

Image
The older version had only a small village, well while that village grew quite a bit in the last 6 months.

Image
Instead of having over 100 maps where the player would take hours to travel from one point to another, there is the overworld map where you can encounter monsters and also serves as a connection between the many locations the game will have as we develop the game.

Image
The new combat system. The screenshot doesn't tell much, but as you can see each enemy will it's own stats that can vary from enemy to enemy. Obviously beating a level 5 enemy is harder than beating a level 2 one.

One of the new locations, you'll need to beat the first quest before you can go there.

Well that's all for now.
