Review: Sonic Boss Attack - Demo 2

At first glance, I'd say, "OMG not another Sonic fangame." For some reason I had nothing to do and I downloaded it. 1.something megs isn't that bad..Once I started playing it, it wasn't bad at all.

I'll start with the bad news. It'll be disappointing if I put the bad news at the end.

Graphics:

Obviously, most of the graphics were ripped in this game. Most of the graphics are from the Sonic games for Genesis. However, some of the sprites, I have no idea where they came from. They're probably still ripped though. At the beginning of each level, there's a picture(looks hand-drawn) of a character from Sonic the Hedgehog. The Sonic drawing could use improvement, but the picture of De. Robotnic was impressive!

sound and music

Obviously the sound is off the internet. However, I don't care about that because I understand that it would take a long time to make Sonic sounds from scratch. Now for the music: Yes, the music is obviously not original, but I don't care either again because making Midis is hard work. Some of us aren't musicians.

Now the good news:

Presentation

Each level had a well flowing level start screen that is seen in all the Genesis Sonic games. I thought that was a good point to the game. The boss selection was creative. If it was just a lit it would be boring. However instead, there's a whole interactive level to explore for the boss select. The title screen wasn't anything really simple. It just showed the title, gave a brief explanation of the plot, etc. Overall though, the presentation was good.

Gameplay

I expected there to be a platform movement for Sonic, but I was completely wrong. A custom platform movement was made and comes with custom scrolling too! The AIs and player engine were well set up, although not perfect. In a newbie game, you'll never see a custom platform movement. But here, this is definitely not a newbie game. Not only the programming was done well, but the bosses were also very creative and fun to play(although somtimes very hard) I played til the end of the game. The ideas for the bosses were great!

Aside from ripped graphics, this isn't a newbie game! The game is fun and addictive(until you beat it of course. Lol!). Don't overlook this game; it's worth playing at least once!
