CHRIS: Another platformer, and this one hasn't been pulled off particularly well. You control a Rayman style character who wanders his way through very Robocoddy looking levels. The strange thing about this game is that the foreground graphics look pretty good. They have a thick chunky style and all is nice. However, this is marred greatly by some poor background colour combinations - and there is far too much snow, and this obscures your vision and is hard on the eyes generally. It's a shame too that you can't skip cutscenes. The game in whole is pretty inventive, with a snowman battle in particular that stands out (you stand on top of a tower, shooting them, but it's quite difficult). This really does feel like "just another platformer" and there are far better entries in the competition. Very Christmassy though, which boosts the rating, but fairly poorly programmed, no matter how diverse some of the stages are - which knocks it back down again.

DAVID NEWTON: This game starts off decently enough with a cutscene showing the story - I can't really fault the graphics here, apart from the way that the snow effect seems to overwhelm the rest of the sprites. In the game, though, some of the building blocks for the levels are used in a very repetitive fashion (the background in the cave reminds me of Robocod!) I think that the game's platform movement feels awfully sluggish, with the jump height in particular being insignificant. A number of special features have been included, such as blocks that have to be smashed before going through them, which breaks up the platforming a bit. The idea of including alternative level styles in the game is a good one, though it was a little unclear what I had to do once I actually caught up with the snowman, and changing the whole interface between mouse and keyboard later on seems a very bad idea. I appreciate the programming involved for the bosses, but I didn't find they worked very well to play through. There didn't seem to be a way back from the Game Over screen (even the "Ctrl+Shift to skip cutscenes" didn't work at all). As for Christmassiness, it's difficult to go wrong with a game about rescuing Santa's presents. And I liked the RPG-style text windows, so it has something going for it.

SHAB: Pretty well put together, consistant style, though the game isn't really anything special, it's well put together.

ANDI SMITH: Another platformer. Michi was a bit like Rayman in bodily appearance. The graphics were simple but functional (though some did hurt my eyes) and the game was pretty Christmassy in parts. I fell down a hole and appeared much later in the game which wasn't too great - more game testing needed! And also, I don't have a D-Pad on my keyboard.

ASSAULT ANDY: It suffered a bit from too much explaining and dialog, and not enough time to let the player play! There were also a fair few glitches. 1: On the reindeer tutorial, if you don't collect the red gem within a few seconds then you cannot move and you need to restart the game. 2: On the first reindeer level you can just die and it takes you to the next. The graphics needed a bit of work aswell, a plain black background isn't that nice to look at, with repeating tiles. The icy levels looked nicer though.
