3D Studio Max 8 supports particals in addition to almost anything else you could ever need. If you need help getting used to 3DS Max though, check out www.3DBuzz.com , thats where I learned all of the basics I needed for 3DS Max, ideally with the interface, and basic modelling, they even go over rigging & box modelling, to make an alien model. The VTM's they have there are amazing, and will drop you off in a position where the tutorials that come with 3DS Max will make alot of sense & pick you back up. I'm still learning, but every time I dedicate some time to it, I learn alot and end up pumping out nicer looking stuff every time. On that note, 3DS Max was also used to help make King Kong, so thats got to be worth something.

I keep hearing that about South Park, but a friend of mine wont stop insisting that it was nothing but a camera & stop motion paper art.

The first episode was done that way, and it took them like three months to finish. Every one since then has been done in some software package or another. Now they can complete an episode in four days.

The Simpsons is completely hand drawn, but they still crank out episodes fairly fast (they're nearly up to 400)

Doesn't it take six months to produce an episode of the simpsons? They have a couple of korean animation houses or something, and they have several episodes worked on concurrently.
