If you don't have a DS yet, then definitely go for it. I like the touch but the DS is much better for gaming.

I was thinking that I could get a DSi and give my old DS to my brother so we can multiplay together. Anyways, I would probably type if I could cause I often have assignments to do and, lacking a laptop, some way to do that anywhere would be nice. I just realized how unaware I am of the iPod Touch's features! I should research.

What do you want to know? I use my way too much. Have to charge it 2 times a day sometimes.

For me, I play alot more games on my touch than on my DS/psp. My DS hasn't been used in months. My Psp gets really, really light use.

What does an iPod do before you download apps and what useful apps are there besides games?

Before you download apps you can browse the internet, take notes, maintain a contact list, use email (gmail, yahoo, etc), check the weather, watch video, play music, take voice memo's (2g only), and youtube.

There are thousands of apps besides games. Twitter clients, streaming video, streaming music, read comics, google earth, SMS text, check planets position in the night sky. Most of these apps are free. Browsing the app store from iTunes is a good way to check out some of the apps. Paid apps sporadically go free for a day or two, (twitter is a good way to find out about these). You can alos download these apps directly from your touch.

Either we got the 1st gen or you're talking about the next generation, because ours doesn't have a mic built in... I thought we had the 2nd gen but perhaps not. If we do have the 1st gen, then it won't hurt for you to buy that one because I haven't suffered from it.

It doesn't have one built in, but it does support mics plugged into the headphone jack.

The new 3rd gen Ipod touch comes with headphones that include an inbuilt mic...

But if you're going for 1st or 2nd gen you'd have to buy an external mic to record voice memos.

It costs $150 now, but my parents don't like the idea of me buying an old device with no warranty.

EDIT: The original $175 Craigslist post: http://lincoln.craigslist.org/ele/1371428569.html

And the new $150 post: http://lincoln.craigslist.org/ele/1371569670.html

In case any of you want to buy it.

Would they rather you buy a new one with a warranty twice as expensive? Having it repaired would probably still be cheaper than buying a new one!

Also, you know you want to buy a mic and use skype/ocarina.

Like I said, my favorite thing about the Zune besides the fact that I like how it looks and feels better (which is entirely opinionated), is the $15/m unlimited music subscription. New music is always coming out, and if you think about how much music you'd be buying a month just to get all the new stuff that you like and want to listen to, it's well over $15.
You get to keep 10 songs DRM-Free, which means you're really just paying $5 a month for unlimited music that you can't keep if you stop paying, and the other $10 goes to the 10 "free" songs.

In other words:

If you listen to A LOT of music very often and don't want to pay a dollar for each song or illegally download it, Zune is the best choice.

If you want a PDA that plays music, and know you'll often be in Wifi hotspots, iPod Touch is the best choice.

If you want an MP3 player that just works, no special features, no special plans, go with anything non-Microsoft, non-Apple, because you'll save a fortune.

Everyone's different, just trying to avoid my opinion from being lost in the crowd.

how is buying a song for a dollar any different than buying a cd? i like to own my music. and i dont understand what the hell anyone complains about drm for. the only people who it really affects are pirates. and quite honestly, fuck pirates.

im all for microsoft products over apple but honestly the zune was a peice of shit. how the zunehd will stack up is another story.

and about your "you need wifi for most of the features to work" for the touch. you mean the features that zune doesnt even have? i have wifi at my work and at my home. my school had wifi. my library has wifi. starbucks has wifi. most places anywhere have wifi now. unless you live out in the boonies somewhere, in which case maybe you should just move?

Thanks Sony. I don't mind DRM but sometimes it's just arrogance.

I ended up not buying the used one. It got sold for $150 to someone else.

Hmm... I wonder if I even want to spend the money?
