Sony chose UMD for the PSP because it was the only economic option for large capacity storage. Remember, back when PSP launched it was sold with a 32 megabyte memory card!

Yes i remember this fact... It was really strange for me, because when PSP was launched my mobile phone had 256 MB memory card... In PSP it was only for game saves- at the begining...
