so if i want to upload a file somewhere (RAR or ZIP) what are good FREE hosts.
what free hosts are there anyways?

it doesn't have to stay online FOREVER and I just want to give it to one person (doesn't know if that matters).
so are there any pages / free services you know of?

thanks a lot

At mediafire you just register an account (free of charge) and start uploading stuff to it. A lot of people in the community use it.

it's not too fast since it was an accedent that I have it, didn't want the server space to go to waste though.

except its been inundated with tons of ads since it first started. i actually would not recommend it over any other ad based hellhole of an uploading service.

yeh to be honest this is what I thought of using myself given the fact I've got a hotmail account. I've tried it this weekend and it seems to work quite nicely and I won't have to make up a new account somewhere else.

Thanks for all the great site suggestions for example I was not aware of box.net yet so thanks for that.

Mediafire is okay beacuse it doesnt have a limit to how many files you can download like some others. So its good for the downloader. You also have a nice download statistic. But i guess any of the mentioned might be good aswell.

Dropbox is great because it creates a direct link download, meaning you can just click on it or right click download.
And is great when doing projects with others as it supports creating shared folders.
And uploading is a lot more easier.

Skydrive does all that too, and you don't have to install anything - so you can use it on any computer.

Though it's not free, I'd highly recommend eventually picking up a .com domain name that comes with free hosting (Mine's with GoDaddy, but there are others). The cheapest ones are around $20 a year, and to upload a file, all you have to do is start filezilla and drag'n'drop!

Beats the pants off all those other file hosting services.

Dropbox has a browser upload too - they focus on the synchronisation stuff but you don't have to use it.

Pretty sure Google docs has a generic file upload with public sharing

Oh, well, we all have our own servers, we just prefer to use other people's bandwidth!
