But when all is said and done, Brazil is the greatest film ever made.

Lazarus (CapriceVision): HOW ON EARTH CAN YOU ENJOY THE HARRY POTTER FILMS (and books, presumably) AND NOT LIKE LORD OF THE RINGS!
The Harry Potter film franchise is terrible, the director of the first two had no clue, and the boy who plays Harry cant act for floo powder!
Now, LOTRs work MUCH better as films, and Peter Jackson did a great job.
I dont mind if Dustin doesnt like them, because Im guessing he's not a fan of fantasy, but how can you say HP is great, and say LOTR 'sucks'?
BOGUS.
'oh yeah? he's thrown a kettle over a pub, what have you done?'

y'know strangely i find myself agreeing with JD again. the LOTR books are too long, overly verbose, the and the writing is average at best. people are just overwhelmed by the "breadth" of the world Tolkien creates, but as i see it, anyone can make up a thousand words and string them all together to create an imaginery place. very little of the background information tolkien gives is relevant, and very few books need such depth in order to be successful. hoorah for the films, i say, Jackson cuts out all the bullshit and creates something genuinely entertaining.

My favourite films: (not particular order)
Jackie Chan's Thunderbolt:
Cheesy acting, but the best stunts ever.
Cast Away:
Brilliant apart from the end.
Rush Hour:
Superbly funny - and makes fun of Americans!
Equilibrium:
Like the Matrix, without the hype.
Shaun of the Dead:
Funny AND gory.
Lord of the Rings:
The books were crap - the films were excellent.
Forest Gump:
Needs no explanation.
I also saw part of a film called Battle Royale the other day. The plot was that because Japanese children today didn't respect their elders, some had to take part in a game where the winner was the last one alive. Rather disturbing in some parts.

I think the LOTR books are good as are the films. The Harry Potter books are really fantastic, just get over the fact that they are popular and the films are average at best. As far as books go, read the "His Dark Materials" trilogy...NOW!! And the Snickett books, they are great fun.
Brazil is the greatest film ever made.

My all time favourite movie is The Shawshank Redemption.
Following that; in extremely vague order of preference:
- Leon
- Dirty Harry
- Get Carter
- The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
- Braindead / Dead Alive
- South Park The Movie
- Cowboy Bebop The Movie
- Dawn of The Dead (original)
- Day of The Dead
- The Thing
- The Green Mile
- Good Will Hunting
- The Life of Brian
- About a Boy
- Ghostbusters
- Twelve Monkeys
- Army of Darkness
- Evil Dead 2
- Terminator 2
- Pulp Fiction
- Forest Gump
The new Dawn of the Dead is nowhere near as good as the old one, but is still the best horror film for quite a few years. If you haven't seen Shaun of the Dead; don't bother. Just download a trailer off the internet and watch that - 90% of all it's funny moments are contained within.
