This is why Microsoft is going to turn on the firewall by default in service pack 2. If more people would use firewalls this kind of stuff would not happen. Also, Microsoft put out a fix for this 2 weeks before the worm hit, but not many people keep their PC's updated. The update from Microsoft does not remove the worm if you already have it, but it will prevent you from getting it. I am afraid user error is to blame for this one.
99 percent chance that the above post is 100 percent correct.

Keeping Windows up to date helps alot against those worms who use holes in windows. Remember that!
Batchman. I know my router protects alot against well, worms that use holes in windows, hackers, etc. etc. Thats also one of the reasons I chose Cybercity as my ISP (a local company in my country) as they ONLY deliver ADSL with a router. A router gives so much security compared to a modem.
Oh, well ... have to go now ... I will update this later.
If you knew, I would have to kill you...

How I protect myself:
- I've got the latest updates for Windows XP
- I've got Norton AntiVirus
- I've got AVG AntiVirus
- I have Spybot - Search and Destroy
To show how franticly viruses spread, and how I easily protected myself, I'll tell what happened just the other day.
Yesterday, I was searching on Google for .wav to .mp3 converters (For this one forum topic). When I went onto this one page (I think it was dailymp3.com), AVG informed me that I had caught a Trojan Horse. Although it can't immediately remove viruses like Norton, I was able to run the full scan. Within 30 minutes, I removed the Trojan before it damaged my computer at all.

yeah, although with AVG if you want to remove a virus quickly you can do a "custom scan" and only scan the folder the virus is in, so not having an auto-remove feature isn't too drastic.
