Talking to homeless people
Posted 8th Jun 10, by Flava
My game now has a new feature - you can talk to a homeless person! Or in other words, I've started work on the "Talk To" system today.

Quite simply it allows for scripted and timed conversations between yourself and other characters in the game. If you look at the screenshots, they show a homeless person who you can talk to. The conversation is scripted, something like this (note: this conversation is for engine development only, probably won't feature in the final game)..

YOU: Hey, are you awake?
HOBO: ZzzzZzzz..
YOU: Come on wake up, I need your help!
HOBO: ZzzzZzzz..
YOU: HEY WAKE UP!!
HOBO: AGH What the hell?
HOBO: What do you want, kid?

You're can then select between 4 different questions which will result in different paths in the conversation. Some questions will just provide dialogue, while others will help you move on in the game.

I'm quite pleased with how it works so far. I'm also thinking about re-designing the "Look at", "Pick up" and "Talk to" buttons. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know in the comments.

Awesome who doens'nt love hobos! And the look at, pick up, and talk to buttons seem fine. Maybe you could be able to pick up anything, or try to atleast. Same with talking to. That could give some funny results.

Any small objects you'll be able to pick up, and you'll be able to talk to any characters you come across. The look-at button will mainly be for giving hints or looking at signs on walls.

You can also try talking to objects, like the tree, and the character will say stuff like "This isn't time to talk to a tree" or something along those lines. I'd try and think of something witty, but I'm not a very witty person

This may be off-topic... Can it still be a Friday night if you travel through time? What if you land on a Monday morning?

Cool, this game looks well cool! There aren't enough shareware point-n-click adventures in this world!
