First release ahead
Posted 18th May 10, by HitmanN
Alrighty folks. "Tank Game" is going to see its first public release very soon. I'm aiming for this weekend (Friday or Saturday hopefully), with early next week being the deadline, unless some game-shattering bug surfaces. I pretty much have a list of the things I want done before then, and it's not very many items, and most of them are just to make certain things more convenient, nothing you can't really play without anyways.

I would like to once more thank especially Sketchy for all the testing help, bug reports, suggestions and even some coding examples that I've learned new things from. "Tank Game" would likely be a bit different if it wasn't for his feedback. Other testers have contributed some feedback too, so thanks to all who did.

The latest feature I've added is customizable player colours. So far red and green have been fixed colours, but now you can select your favorite colour for your units and flags from the palette. If you fancy your tanks girly pink, go for it. Or if you're just a big baby, then go for baby blue!

It is quite possible that the next time I update the first release is out, so stay tuned! And to get the most out of the first release, invite a friend over. Afterall, the first release is still just the offline 1vs1 mode, and while fighting with yourself can be fun up to a point, it's ten-fold more satisfying to kick some familiar butt.

And to all of my testers, if you still got feedback to provide, please do so in a timely manner, before the weekend. Thanks.

Online mode, online mode, onli...

If it's a turnbased game online mode would be very easy to add.

To UrbanMonk:
I think you've made your wishes clear by now. ;F As long as the mechanics keep changing and new features are introduced constantly... and the map format is not even set in stone yet... the data sent back and forth would keep changing, and I'm not interested in making an online mode which I would constantly need to alter just as much as offline mode. Believe me, I want to get there as well, but adding multiplayer to a work-in-progress product would just cause more work than doing it when no more considerable changes to the engine, mechanics and variables are needed. Not that I have much experience with the online stuff, but I don't want to confuse my head with temporary solutions.

We'll get there, but haste makes waste, is an important principle to me.
