Summary
TGF, C&C and everyone pre-MMF 1.5 seems to be extremely confused or disillusioned to the facts about MMF. People seem to say: "I hate the interface!" or "Doesn't it have more bugs?" and then continually ask CT to patch really old software like TGF. In this article I will try to clear up the confusion about this. Don't be stubborn, give me a chance to explain, read this article carefully, and hopefully I can give you insight to the true improvements of MMF 1.5. (MMF 1.5 users read anyway, to help you convince your friends! ) I used to be a die-hard TGF fan but quickly saw the improvements of MMF 1.5 and bought it, so I have a first hand experience to tell you about.
Answers to a TGF user's questions
Isn't MMF 1.5 completely different to TGF?
No. It works still with the old familiar event editor and frame editors, but with more shortcut keys, quicker editing and making of events and a load of improvements to ensure making your game is more fun, faster, and more enjoyable. Two examples: Double click a condition to edit, no need to right-click and select Edit (much faster for editing events). Groups of events not active on start of frame have grey headers - many little useful display things like that help you to understand your events better.
I heard it had more bugs and was worse than TGF.
MMF 1.5 has so many bug fixes it makes TGF look unusable for bugs after you get to grips with MMF 1.5. You will seriously ask yourself: 'How did I manage with that?" MMF 1.5 is much, much more powerful than TGF or anything before it. Four examples: 10,000 objects at runtime maximum. 26 alterable values. Renaming alterable values. Many, many more extensions to add all the extra functionality.
I hate MMF's interface, it is soo much harder to use than TGF!
As said above, MMF 1.5 is actually easier to use than TGF! All the shortcuts and easier ways of going about making your game make it so much faster and easier to make your game. And as for the interface, all I can say is take a look at how I use MMF comfortably on 800x600 resolution at http://www.gullen.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/tigsmmf.jpg with all the extra power, ease of use and cool features at my fingertips. Give MMF 1.5 a week and you will see how much better it really is. All you really need to do is spend ten minutes re-arranging the interface to how you're comfortable with, and spend a bit of time learning the new icons.
I want patches for TGF!
Clickteam do not support their older products. Why waste time going backwards when you could be going forwards into the world of better Clicking? Clickteam won't update TGF for the same reason as they won't update KNP. They've done it before. Updating KNP would be like re-making TGF from KNP, a complete waste of time. Why patch TGF when they've already made MMF 1.5, with all the bug fixes and new features? MMF 1.5 is the new TGF, it is all the new bug fixes and patches and new features.
Argh! I can't afford $300!
No, maybe you can't, but maybe you can afford $99 for MMF 1.5 Standard. You're looking at the Pro version. Better still if you own a legal copy of a Click product which is pre-MMF 1.5 you can get a really nice (up to 60% off I think) discount! So no, it's not expensive or hard to get! Surely you can save up $40 or $50?
Conclusion
Stop wasting your time and GET MMF 1.5!
