Alright ladies and gents, Shab here, bringing you the info for the TDC Xmas Compo 2006.
We've got some great prizes this year, and we're hoping that this year's compo is at LEAST as successful as last year's was.

Theme (Besides Christmas of course) - Grid Based Games

Definition 1
The game must take place on a grid. The character MUST be locked into a cell on the grid. If you want to make the grid movement smooth, that's fine, but the Characters MUST be locked into the grid (Think Old school Final Fantasy).

Definition 2
The character always has to exist on a cell on the grid. You can either be on a cell or another cell, not between them.

Every object also has to exist on the grid.

Someone else asked about smooth transitions between grid spaces - those are obviously fine as long as you can't stop halfway.

Examples:
Zelda (1 for NES) does NOT count as a grid based game (For the purpose of this compo), as only the map was grid based; the movement was "free" (Not locked into the grid).

Final Fantasy Adventure (GB) DOES count as a grid based game.

Fallout DOES COUNT as a grid based game, as your character was locked into "cells" for movement

Rules

Blood and gore ARE allowed.
Slightly vulgar language is ok, but if it's excessive; you MAY be disqualified.
Minimum Grid Size is 8*8 Pixels
1 entry per person (or group)
Max File size is 10Mb Zipped (No Rar's)

Scoring

Graphics - XX/20
Gameplay - XX/40
Sound - XX/10
Christmas-ness XX/10
Presentaion xx/10
"Float" - XX/10

Float is basically just our personal preference. It's completely possible to have a well made game that you just can't stand, or two similar games but one is slightly better than the other.

If you'll notice, the max points are, unsurprisingly enough, 100pts.

Prizes

1. MMF2 Pro...er.Dev or $100
2. MMF2 Standard or $50
3. TGF2 or $50

Now, in order to get the cash prizes, you WILL NEED PAYPAL!

That's not it!
Jeff has also told us that he has 5 "Mystery Prizes" to give out as well, so here's how we'll deal with those:

Best Graphics
Most Original
Best Use of "Christmas" theme
The "Oh so close award" - awarded to 4th place
"Round Table" - All of us judges will sit around like it's the dark ages, and pick one game that didn't win anything, and give the final "Mystery Prize" to it's creator.

Deadline

Saturday, December 23rd.
Here's a handy link.

Submitting

Send a link to your entry (Meaning you'll need to upload it somewhere, don't worry if it's a crappy host; I'll handle distributing it to all the judges) to compo@ectoprods.com with the title "TDC Christmas Compo" AFTER December 16th (One week before the deadline). This email will NOT EXIST until that date.

And finally, the wonderfully scheexy Judges.

Any questions? Well, then post in the official thread, and I'll answer them as best I can, and of course, the most important thing is to HAVE FUN!

While you're at it, throw a big "Thank you" in Clickteam's direction for once again providing us with these great prizes to give away!
