With the Arcade up and running and with some more games coming in tomorrow, I think it is a great time to start up a little TDC Arcade compo. We challenge YOU to make a cool Arcade game.
The winner will get courtesy of clickteam the FLASH extension for FREE. That is a $69 value folks! For the peeps who already bought the flash we are working on getting something equally cool.
So da rules then!
* Games must be open source only. This is to add security and to add the daily click arcade high score system. Once completed please PM Rikus with the link or email to: rikusk@gmail.com --Be detailed in your description on what the game is about and what the player has to do. Also let us know if you want your game to be vitalized or flashed.
* Please as the author -Do Not- include a cheat feature in your game,
while the admins do check for such code if such a game is found out of having
the abbility to cheat, both the game and the author will be banned from the arcade.
* Games must be addictive with a arcade High Score setting in mind.
* Resolution/play area should not exceed 640*480 and keep in mind that larger games will have longer loading times.
* Keep 1 frame empty on where we can put the Arcade Highscore code in, also be sure to let us know were we can pull the highscore data from. (Example, player 1 or player 2 etc)
Also there's a bug with the current version of vitalize that means mouse events don't work, and there's no fix for it yet.
With that in mind if you submit your game and we do find a error that prevents us from converting it to either flash or vitalized we will of course let you know.
Other then that anything goes, make people have some fun with your game! This compo will will last until April 16th. Feel free to create a project page detailing the progress of your game and post the link below. Any questions or if I missed anything let me know. Good Luck!

Noob question: Exactly how would I be able to store the score? I would guess via ini, but this is for flash/vitalize. How would we/I do this?
All platforming problems can be mostly solved here:
I have actually just recently released a new highscore board based game to TDC called real360 Pong. There is a game like it, but Clubsoft told me that mine is a lot better, so can I enter this in the compo and will any of this hurt my chances of winning?
I would really like to get my hands on a free version of Flash, since its out of my hands right now to buy it.
I was hoping that Flash limitations would apply also for Vitalize games in terms of extensions. Then these games could be recompiled to Flash afterwards. Vitalize is not a good thing - the Arcade needs to get more Flash games and forget the Vitalize. I had a perfect example yesterday when I introduced the Arcade to my girlfriend (who occasionally plays casual games on various game portals). When launching one of the Vitalized games her reaction was like "nah I don't want to install anything.." when the Vitalize install question popped up. This is what non-clicker users will think and they will leave the site. So this is basically about decision whether to build the Arcade for clickers or instead try to establish it as a generic casual gaming portal which attracts casual gamers outside the community, which then works as a "platform" for click developers to develop content for and to get players for their games (rather than just developing content for the fellow developers to play).
Other than that - and the open source requirement - this competition looks great and hopefully we'll see many new cool games to the Arcade!
MJK for now until clickteam patches it, flash is just too darn limited to transfer all vitalized games over, trust me with tried.
So yes the arcade will both serve vitalize and flash for now "until" flash gets a couple of good updates from clickteam. However there is good news, and do note this, once clickdoes patches up the flash plugin it is "very" easy for us to save all the remaining vitalized games to the flash format. So even if the new games are compiled into vitalize now, weeks from now when flash is patched we can just recompile vitalize into flash. So no worries

Are there any restrictions of posting some of the old games to the competition? I mean many could "remake" their games and make them example flash compatible.
