DC is a very unstable site in terms of the stuff that gets dished out from it. I remember a while back there was practically nothing uploaded. And what little new stuff there was, was pure crap. ANY game in this weeks GOTW poll could have taken the GOTW award during those times hands down. However, during present times, these better games are forced to compete against eachother.
Maybe I'm just rambbling (I tend to do this), but wouldn't it seem more fair if GOTW games were 'grouped' and then juged according to the skill level of the makers. I mean, some n00b's make games that are GREAT for their first game, but still coudn't stand up to games more experienced users make. Does this necessarily mean that they don't deserve an award or something? I'd say no.
BTW, how many people actually care abot the GOTW poll? just out of curiosity.

Nobody cares about GOTW any more, it's just routine now. Most games just get it because they are the only ones left.

I cant change the format... It's Game of the Week so I cant decide what weeks I want to include the best games from past weeks. Anyway, that just defeats the purpose... If I decided which games were best, and hence seperated them out over several weeks, then why I dont just stop the GOTW and have an "Editors Choice" section instead, since I'm already deciding which are the best in that case anyway?

people care less about GOTW now, myself included.
shadow, i think you have too many games on the voting list. to vote is to profess that you've played them all, and have selected the best one. but i dont have the time to download 12 games; so i vote blindly for the best one that i have played, even though there could be a better one. if you see my point.

That's true for me also. On average I play about 4 games from the GOTW list - I don't have time to play them all, and quite often I'll download a really good game and I won't want to play any others.
Anyway, I have an idea: 'Game of the Month (and runner-ups)'. Every month, the top 3 games are selected based upon user ratings (reviews and thumbs up/down). If a game gets good reviews and lots of thumbs ups, it is rated highly. If it gets bad reviews/low percentage, it has a low rating. (You would have to account for number of reviews & votes, otherwise you could get a game with 100% and 5 votes winning GOTM whereas a (better) game with 97.4% and 50 votes and wouldn't.)
However, you might get a games shortage towards the end of each month because less people will have a chance to play the game before the end of the month.

Here are my favourite excuses:
"Well, the other 8 games looked bad... so they must be bad, right?"
"But that had a crap name! And that was in uppercase! I mean, how n00bish is that?"
"I didn't play it because I think it got 13 thumbs down." (The game is a day old.)

If I start picking and choosing, it goes back to my point that I may as well just choose the winner myself since I'm already deciding on what I think are the best, even though others might not agree
Also, if I start picking which games to put up, I'm going to get loads of complaints. I already remove some games from the list which "technically" qualify, but I get complaints that it should be on there (even though, IMO, the game had no chance of winning).

Maybe you should just give the GOTW the axe. I mean, when it first started, the winner usually gets around 50 to 60 votes. Now, it seems like Fighting Spirit is gonna win and its only got 22 votes. People REALLY dont care any more, and if you do can it, you'll also stop recieving complaints
