GOTW #135 - Crystal Towers
News posted 21st May, 2005 by The Chris Street
It's time for some computin', and with ye Godly admin powers, the award goes to David Newton, with his wonderful Crystal Towers.

Click here to download the GOTW

This weeks entrants (yes, we don't normally accept fan-games, but after a discussion with the admin team, we felt these two are different enough to be included) - Mario Adventure, Metroid: Ripped Worlds, and Webit. For GOTW I'll reiterate again, this is what you have to do, go to DC and submit a damn game, and make sure it isn't poo.

wtf! my gotw vote thingy showed the games from last week, so i voted again for crystal towers (hehehehe). But when i looked again it said i had voted for metroid-ripped worlds @_@

I don't know what to vote for, they all suck. I think I will vote for webit.

Posted by axel 21st May, 2005

i was gonna vote for it anyway, so it really doesn't matter, but i'm still a bit confused :P

Thank you for voting! In return, this should make things easier - Up, Down, Left, Right, hold A and press Jump on the title screen (before the menu appears).

I dont ever vote on the GOTW poll because I never play them all.

Posted by Hayo 21st May, 2005

Webit is not a game.

sharp attention, hayo ;) :O a cheat! you little.......thanx :D *evil laugh*

Apps can get on GOTW :) But AOTW doesn't have the same ring to it.

Posted by axel 21st May, 2005

why wasn't DownTime GOTW nominated? I would've voted for it :(

Posted by axel 21st May, 2005

i mean this week's GOTW, wong ;)

Posted by The Chris Street 21st May, 2005

Downtime wasn't nominated because it was here two years ago and came second in the TDC Winter Sports Competition. I'm not going to submit a game twice to DC, like when I did when Titan Omega Alpha was revamped and had its problems sorted out. Oh, I got a right ear bashing for that.

Posted by Hayo 21st May, 2005

hmm..GOTW never had a nice ring to me either.

Posted by axel 21st May, 2005

uuuhh... why was it submitted again, then?

Posted by defenestrator 21st May, 2005

I thought he said he didn't actually release it before, just as a competition entry.

Posted by Jason Dudie 21st May, 2005

this voting is rigged by the mafia

Posted by The Chris Street 21st May, 2005

The competition entry looked pretty complete to me. Just imagine if Eve submitted Super Santa Snowland to TDC and it ended up in GOTW... there'd be an outrage.

DownTime was in fact never submitted to this site (though I forgive Circy for thinking that it was: a load of my old stuff got deleted when Shadowcaster threw a hissy fit and wiped my account), it was only submitted to the christmas competition. I can't say I'm real cut up about it not being included, though. I need a GOTW like I need a blonde mirkin.

"Up, Down, Left, Right, hold A and press Jump on the title screen (before the menu appears)." Very much like the cheat for the first Sonic the Hedgehog game on the Genesis.

Posted by Phredreeke 22nd May, 2005

Yeah, I mentioned that in a chat yesterday. How original.

Posted by Simon Colmer 22nd May, 2005

wooh, vote Webit :P

Posted by The Chris Street 22nd May, 2005

Yes, Wong told me that Sonic inspired that cheat.

Posted by axel 22nd May, 2005

now that's lack of originality XD Poor [whoever made WebIt]. webit's losing the GOTW to a game that was made in like 2 minutes XD

Posted by Simon Colmer 22nd May, 2005

aha, no im not, we are both on 12 votes :P i really hope i win, taken me ages to build it!

Posted by Hill Gigas 22nd May, 2005

Well best of luck Simon. Your game deserves it more than mine. Mainly because, well, my game doesn't contain a single original pixel. :P I take that back... I made the menu text. XD

It was meant to be so that you could think to yourself "I recognise that!" and be smug about it for a while, but you could call it that as well.
