GOTW #281 - Cade Tower: Eozsof
News posted 17th May, 2008 by The Chris Street
This weeks winner of GOTW is Cade Tower: Eozsof, created by Fanotherpg. What's quite notable about this game is that the author very generously released it as open-source too, meaning that others can learn from the coding! Nice one :)

This weeks entrants - Bill Clinton Ballerina Screensaver, Bloobs Online, HemaHema, Brave Honey Bee, and Platform Enemy Movement (with LocoRocos!).

Well there you go... that's whats been submitted over the last two weeks. We apologise for the lack of GOTW last week... but everyone - including myself - appeared to be preoccupied with other things :(

If someone votes for that Bill Clinton Screensaver, I will laugh.

Is it really allowed that non-games like that screensaver and the LocoRoco example is able to be GAME of the week?

Edit: Like -Ricky- and Chris Street also is saying?

Well, a project that took a year won't get that chance because its abandoned, whereas a tutorial that either me or Phizzy can put together in a day will win gotw just like that. I think you should just be a bit more lax about it; if there werent very many DL's, be a bit less strict about the definition of "Game" for that week.

I've won GotW's before, so I don't honestly care, but it seems awfully silly to include "Bill Clinton Screensaver" and not "BlobQuest". Heck I already had half a mind not to even put that one up in the first place and just let it rot on my harddrive, I'd hate to think of anyone else being demotivated from posting unfinished work.

Um... yes

It does seem awfully strange to me that people actually voted on the poll for engines to be included in the GOTW.
Thats how the ruling came to be,

I just think people didn't really think before voting.

I can see why they would be allowed, but I don't get why abandonware isn't tbh. I do kinda remember the poll, but I think I cast my 2 bits

Posted by Ricky 17th May, 2008

abonware shouldn't be included because there is a chance that the author could pick it up again

Abandonware is somthing that is incomplete, an engine or screensaver is complete in the sense of what was trying to be achieved. seems fair to me.

LOL! Adams cake!!

Posted by Pixelthief 17th May, 2008

Well thats actually exactly what I figured adam- we never ever want to give someone gotw for the same game twice, and it would suck to get it for an incomplete version instead of ur real one. I had to pry a certain someone into removing one of my games from gotw a while ago because it had already won once, lol

But what about when the abandonware form is its final incarnation?

Fair doos, I voted for the beeeeee game. Frustrating but quite fun to play through.

I actually voted for Phizzys platform engine, its very good. And that music really did it for me lol.
