It took a little longer than I had hoped, but here are the new screenshots I'm pretty sure I promised in the last update.
Look at them trees
BOOM! Head shot!
As you've probably noticed, I added some palm trees to make the stage more interesting. I think it worked out rather well. Also, I think this is the first time I've shown off the current sniper scope.
Now for the technical side of things. Progress has being made at a faster rate now. I seem to have finally gotten completely back into making this(of course, my solitaire addiction is still sucking up way more time than it should. ).
The enemy AI, while not progressing in smarts just yet, has seen some drastic speed improvements. I'd say the increase would be around 3-4 times faster. The reason for this is the incredibly inefficient way I went about coding targeting. Before, I was looping through each enemy, and each good guy for each enemy, wasting around 500-600 loops per frame. That averages out to around 37500-45000 every second. This was unacceptable, so I fixed it. I think I've also figured up another faster method to free up more processing time, but we'll see.
Good guy AI is currently on the back burner while I finish out the enemy AI. After that, it's a simple matter of copy, paste, edit, good AI is done! Hopefully I can have the enemy AI completely sorted out within a week, then I could probably release a new beta.
Also, I'm thinking about going with the Battlefield/Star Wars Battlefront mechanic of command points which need to be captured. Good idea? Bad idea?
Anyways, that's all for this update. Be sure to leave some feedback on the screenshots, what looks good, what doesn't. See ya.
Mate...... probably my most anticipated game on TDC, this just looks drop-dead gorgeous - the trees are fantastico! And the sniper scope looks exceptionally cool too!!
As for the Battlefield suggestion, i would defo give that idea a big thumbs up for sure!
Hmm, i think it might suffer if it did, since the characters are in the same graphical vein. Though maybe it wouldn't hurt to see - how about trying it Linkman and letting us decide which is better?
I like your new style, but I also liked your old style (f.e. how did you create the desert floor here in this pic?). But all in all i am really waiting for your game, it looks almost perfect.
