Im afraid peko is probably not going to happen now Basically, my laptops broken and the files have deleted themselves and i just have NO patience to draw and do all of the engine again

sorry to hear that You should've kept back-ups! Maybe you could start another game that's just as great, and maybe even better

Posted by Joellie 15th March, 2009

Well my whole hardrive has erased all my files:|

Im so annoyed lol but yeah i could, i could make another one using everything ive learnt

Posted by Sumo148 15th March, 2009

I put my backups on a flash drive :|

That's AWFUL! You'll need to get some thumb drives.

But wait a second, maybe if you can get your laptop fixed, you can do a system restore. It might undo the erases. Here's how:

When (Or if...T_T) your laptop gets fixed, do a search on your laptop for system restore. If you find it, try it out. It might work. Have Faith!

Or wait a minute... you could get a new laptop that's the same model of the one that's broken (If memory serves, I think laptop hard drives are specific to their own model ), insert your harddrive, and THEN do a system restore.

I hope that works!

Unfortunate to the max! Hope you either retreive your files or have better luck with your next project

Bugger.
But a rather intense game making friend once told me he relishes losing his game files. It forces him to rebuild everything and make it more effecient and tidier.

Werewoof - laptop drives aren't locked to specific machines, it's MP3 players that are. It's possible to swap out a HDD depending on how easy the manufacturer made it.

i once read somewhere that no data on a computer is ever completely deleted. i dont know if its actually true or how to recover such items, but i agree with james, use this as a learning expirience, and it seems that youve already got your mind set on a completely new game, which might be for the best.

damn computers with alzhiemers.

@James: Really? I must've misread something. That's pretty cool...

Oh no! I'm so sorry Joellie!

Posted by Joellie 15th March, 2009

Oh my god! lol i managed to hack my dads admin account and it is showing my files up here THANK GOD! but james your right, i dont know wether il carry on with peko or just come up with something better i know theres tonnes of stuff i could do better so maybe i will! lol panic over:|

"i once read somewhere that no data on a computer is ever completely deleted"

That's partially correct. Data isn't deleted instantly, but eventually another file is saved over it's location. We're going to try and recover it but obviously it's not guaranteed to succeed.

Basically the Windows logon completely corrupted somehow and it went really peculiar. I've never seen it happen before.

Phew! Now remember to get Thumb drives!

...

Wait, how did you hack your dad's account? lol jk

Posted by Joellie 15th March, 2009

Lol I just used all the possible passwords he could ever have used and just guessed right! lol

Posted by Marko 15th March, 2009

I think you should finish it, whether that means making it shorter than originally intended or whatever. It would be a shame to not finish it as that happens to way too many projects, and most don't look as promising as yours either!

Then start on something new afterwards! Everyone's a winner

YAY!!!! Glad to hear it! Totally get some thumb drives or an external HD, they're great and VERY handy to have.

I think you should use your password-cracking experience to make a hacking game.

"That's partially correct. Data isn't deleted instantly, but eventually another file is saved over it's location."

that makes sense, that also helped me comprend the concept of pointers i read about in the C++ book i just finished and how youre supposed to be careful to not point outside of your program and saving over other addresses filled with other kinds of info and such. thanks for clearing that up for me.

but glad to hear you got it all back, i just had a slight scare myself and it was right before i was about to back up everything but i fixed it okay. with that said, no point in leaving a project unfinished, so take a short break, collect yourself and if you still feel like you want to ditch the project, then by all means theres no point in beating a dead cow.

Posted by Joellie 16th March, 2009

I feel like im on a constant short break though lol its not good :| Who knows il get back to it once im not so busy!

@BeamsplashX lol i doubt id have that much to go on, i just guessed a few of his favourite things.

Posted by Dr. James MD 16th March, 2009

Were they diamonds and rubies and gold diamond rings? They're just a few of my personal favourite things.

Posted by Joellie 16th March, 2009

LOl no it was too simple, it was his name :| LOL

Well, you should still toss a few backups everywhere. I'm pretty sure every kliker's come upon a time when their first favorite game gets corrupted.
