Theme! And random updates.

Combatant is great because it's ending up much more moddable than I thought. But the 'main game' still needs a main theme, a feel, a story, characters... it still has to be a game.

The original idea was to make a typical medieval fantasy theme, with castles, arenas, dwarves, elves, ankhegs, etc. Thanks to guys like Adam and Julian, I found out that was a stupid idea, lol.

So, after some thinking.. I've decided to go with a setting similar to Southeast Asia during its glory era. This is an era where all the technology went into seafaring, exploration, and trade, meaning that huge weapons and metal armor were uncommon.

Pirates were everywhere. Legendary warriors would be able to beat off entire armies with a dagger and martial arts skills. Magic is a very real thing.. no fireballs, but possession, flying swords, summoned monsters were all highly feared. The world will be rather monotheistic, but there's plenty of witches, shamans, and evil spirits for those who want to play that way.

Martial arts is everywhere, and brutal. There were hundreds of forms and none of that disabling stuff on mats. Peasants would spar on grass, practicing moves to kill.

Plenty of elephants, horses, wolves, and other fantasy creatures around the area as well. The place will be mostly jungle, allowing ambushes, banditry, etc.

It's an unexplored theme and looks quite fun to mess around with, especially as it shows off some unique features of the Combatant engine.

Speaking of the engine, I just finished a huge chunk of the design and updated the weapon system so that it makes much more sense. Character design is still on the way... that's going to require a full weekend of meditation for me to think what attributes I need and what I don't. Progress needs a lot of focused creativity, much like writing a song, and this is going to take a while :/
