Climbing Animation Complete
Posted 20th Feb 09, by Jess Bowers
The climbing animation for the main character's sprite is now complete. Also, a couple of animated doodads have also been finished. I'm pretty happy with the way these turned out but there is still a long way to go. Preview

I love the graphic style, very decent.

I also like the glass canisters on the left, the shiny look may not seem like much but i like it.^D^

Climbing animations are quite challenging to do so good for you.

hehe, overuse of smileys, i don't care.

Thanks, folks!

Yeah, the glass tubes were a lot of fun to work on. I finished that animation just after climbing animation. It's 9 frames (looped) to make it look like its boiling.

It's all pretty nice, the background looks a little repetitive at the moment.
Also i assume you're going to add more foreground tiles?

Hey, Andy!

Agreed! The background is definitely a bit repetetive right now. That background will actually change entirely in the final game.

And, yes, we are definitely going to add more foreground tiles! As a hint of where we are going, there will actually be four different tilesets in the final game:

1. Planet surface
2. Metal tunnels (seen in current screenshots)
3. Caves
4. Unknown

With the metal tunnels, I'm trying to emulate of the some of the look and feel of two different classic games: Halloween Harry and T h e x d e r.

The Halloween Harry office levels used 16x16 block tiles:

The first four levels of T h e x d e r were all composed of blocks of 8x8 block tiles):

I've only got a few foreground tiles designed right now for this tileset (in addition to some of the animated "doodads" like the glass tubes). Once Assault Andy and I work out the gameplay mechanics, I'll ramp up this levels details!

in that case keep up the good work!
