Some Menu Mockups for C&C!
Posted 29th Mar 09, by Mr G
Here are some of the menu mockups I've done for the project. The name itself is just my own invention and chloe will do a poll for the name that will be used for the official release of the game

There are 3 version I've done so far, tell me which one you like and if possible give criticism for improvement:

The one at the top is the latest one

I think the top one is too L4Dish. But the bottom one, wow. Love it! Great contrast, great composition in general.

The 2nd or the 3rd?

Posted by Fanotherpg 29th March, 2009

2nd one isn't working so I think that 3rd one and I like last one.

Hmm.. I remember i played a game at a time; The game had like 3-4 diffrent menu pictures, and it was random which one that was in the menu background each time.
That made me look at the picture each time and think of what will the next one be, instead of just quickly press the button to start playing.

So maybe make a value to rand(1-3)
if 1 then show first picture
if 2 then .... you're probably better to click than i am

Anyways, it would make the menu a little more interesting, and you can use all your pictures instead of just one of em'.
Best regards - Kaae

And many more pictures if you want that would be cool

I'll try different variations later on and give the last judgement to chloe

@fanotherpg: All the pics seem to work for me, maybe clear your browser cache to fix problems :/

i like simon's idea, seeing as how I like all the ones that MG has done so far. although, I would like only one of these kind, and maybe some others depicting something else.

Looks great! Can't wait to play the game!

I like them all, but I think I like 3rd the best. It's has better contrast between the foreground, middleground, and background. Plus both figures are easier to see.

Simon's idea sounded pretty good too- I think it'd be a pretty cool menu feature.

Personally I think you should stick with maybe 1 or 2 images, but rather display them as random have them change when you finish the game for the first time (a la Mario Kart games). I think you should split apart the layers in MMF2 and have some kind of parallax effect going on, like the grass slowly sways, the time of the day on the save affects where the sun/moon positions are... but that might be taking it too far

Posted by Chloe Sagal 29th March, 2009

im not sure weather or not ill allow the player to save though... saving could make the game a heck of alot more personal, but when you add another player online or the scoreboard it might make things a little unfair or complicated. maybe an unranked single player game will alow saving, or maybe there could be some kind of blogging system for anyone who is online to show how many days theyve survived, roleplay on what theyve done or something like that. who knows. damn it james, making me think.

@James: That would be out of our league mate I can make still images but I don't know about animating night/day and stuff :/

Posted by Chloe Sagal 29th March, 2009

i can take care of that.

Posted by Mr G 29th March, 2009

Ok then Tell me if you need anything special done and I'll try it out

Posted by Chloe Sagal 29th March, 2009

just do what you're doing now, and if i decided to work on anything special, well do that then.

For the time of day effect, you should try the colorizer. I think it'd work- not sure.

Posted by Muz 30th March, 2009

Yeah, awesome screens

The colorizer is slow when on full screen, I think. Might just have been in my game, though.

The Colorizer really slowed down my game too. Looked fantastic though, there's a lot to play around with and you can get some great effects. Just be sure to only use it on Pong games.

@Muz: Wait until you see the latest menu gfx

I like the layout of the first one, but it needs to be lighter, like the last one.
Actually, I really like the project logo too - very "B-Movie". Just depends on the ingame graphics I guess...
