No Luck With Layers
Posted 17th Sep 10, by s-m-r
Seems like I'm still encountering the artifacts issue, regardless of how many layers I use. I'm at a loss as to why it still shows up that way. It does, however, appear to be linked to the "fade" transition, so next step is to simply destroy it and use no transitions. Not too happy about that, but whatever. It's better than having little bits of the graphics spattered all over the playing field.

This same issue also occurred with one of my other projects I've not touched in a while, with the working title of "Convoy Turret." There were no workable solutions provided for that problem, either. Perhaps it's just the particular transition I've selected that causes issues; I'll chose another one or do without.

Development has been slow due to other commitments jumping into my schedule. We'll see if it's completed by my target date of 8th October...

If you're just using the regular Fade Out transition, what I usually do is turn on a flag and have the semitransparency set to SemiTrans-1 until it becomes 128 or 255 (I forget which one it uses) and destroy it then. That also allows me to let it continue moving while it fades away.

Yeah, what Jon said. Custom transitions are much better than built-in ones because, for one thing, you can move any active objects while it fades out. With built-in transitions you can't do anything until the transition is complete.

If you need an example I can give you one.

Good luck, dude!

Thanks for the heads-up, guys. I'd done it before, but in my haste to finish the project I didn't want to bother doing the code. It worked great in one of my previous projects, so I suppose it's time to bring it back. But the little bits of the graphics sitting all over the place--complete with the alpha channel glaringly obvious--need to go, in any case.

@ Jon: Yeah, the value is 128.

@ W3R3W00F: thanks for the example offer, but I'm on it.
