CDP: New Build - 21 October 2012
Posted 21st Oct 12, by s-m-r
I've created a new build of the CDP, and would love some feedback. You can download this latest version from the link above; it's dated "21 October".

There are two levels to work your way through:
- the first is the larger of the two, featuring a multi-level building to explore and plenty of loot to collect. Look out for the toxic hazards, though! Avoid the green flame-like tiles.
- the second level is much shorter, but showcases the "simple AI robots," the proximity mines, and the piledrivers.

I also added a darker-shaded background tile so the buildings have a bit more depth to them.

All in all I think this is a good place to start! I'd also had some time to mess around with some story ideas, and have a clear notion as to how I will be developing the story, the level selection (which will be free-form at this point, I believe), and how I'd like the game to end.

If you've a moment to spare after playing, please offer some feedback and any suggestions as to how to make the game better.

Thanks for reading!

The game is very cute. It's difficult for my OCD, i've been trying to get all the stuff from the first level to no avail, i keep running out of power despite being very stingy and grabbing as many powerups as I can. That power usage from double jumping is killer.

First off, THANK YOU for your feedback! It's the first I've had about the recent builds other than my wife looking over my shoulder.

I agree that the first level is quite a challenge...!

One thing that may not be clear from the instructions is that you can "reclaim" some of the energy from boxes you've created elsewhere in the level.

To do this, in Building Mode, move your cursor over a block you created and press SHIFT. The block will be gone, but you'll have also collected 3 energy (I think) by reclaiming the block.

I've only completed level 1 once, myself. Going over the top of the main structure and taking the blocks on the far right side first seems to help.

As development continues, I want to find other things to create, or find ways to improve the player's stats. Being able to create cheaper - but temporary - objects seems like a good idea, as well as extending one's energy resources and life level.

All that stuff is in development, and makes larger levels much more accessible. It just takes time and focus to add it in.
