5 or 6 active posters, no posts in several days. Has it been a long time? Maybe I check it too much, but it seems like people are losing interest. What we've been doing, basically, is working as a small team and trying to assign a role to one or two people.

Though I like the direction we were going, maybe we need a change to allow more people to join in and keep it alive.

Very early in the process I posted:
"There will potentially be a LOT of people working on this, which allows for a vast amount of pure Content. I'm guessing there would be a global engine that would allow content to be added quickly and easily. We basically have no limit to how many characters, levels, items etc. there will be in the game - all they'd need is graphics, sound, and a little behavior code to work with the global engine (even if it's as basic as stats like strength and speed). Even Story can be broken up in the variety of areas, so that people who like to create storylines can have their individual work represented - sub-stories within the main storyline."

Maybe instead of the structured and precise direction we've been taking, we aim for a more purely collaborative effort. We could have a good engine to control the player, allowing for all the necessities of a platform game (moving platforms etc.), and have editors for any content we need for the community to just go crazy with - exchange enemies to add in their levels, stuff like that. Then, it'll be almost like a competition, but no winners really. Levels will have to fit a criteria (length, difficulty, playability) to be put in the game. We could even vote on the order of the levels, or how they are placed, difficulty tiers, where to put bosses, anything.

In the end, we have a bloated, incoherent, inconsistent product... but it will be our product :'} whether it comes out looking professional or impressive wouldn't matter, it's the true spirit of klik

Didn't they kinda do this with Knytt? It worked pretty well, I enjoyed quite a few of the user-made stories. Was it called Knytt Stories? We can go a step up and allow custom enemies, even abilities, or at least weapons.

Anyway, point being, more people, more stuff, better fitting the title of a Community Project. What do you think?

Good, good. Finally someone else makes a topic! Anyway, yes, these are all good things being said right here. We needs people, people! Come, someone make an engine, someone write a story! I don't know why people don't want to help, but for whatever reason, please say.

Your idea of unstructuring could be good for a while, then when we get more people and more content, we can structure it a bit more so we get a better organized product.

At first, I think all we'd need is a solid and highly flexible engine. This would take a fair bit of design and decision, and would probably be the only thing we all need to agree on until it comes to organising the content. It certainly needs to be finalized (as well as created and rigorously tested!) before anyone even thinks about making content. The RPG aspect, in particular, will need some thought.

Perhaps once we have the overall design sorted, we can make more of a public note to get people interested and generating ideas for what they might want to add to the project (content-wise). Then we keep them up to date with the engine's progress until BAM, it's ready, release the editors, and this forum should be bustling with activity, people exchanging ideas, forming groups to collaborate within the collaboration, posting levels for others to test and criticize, posting enemies for other people to use in their levels... and we'll have genuine motivation for people to complete the project.

Who wouldn't pitch in if all they had to do is open a level editor, throw together what they think is fun, then just save and upload it? Less than an hour's work, a short evening if you get into it, or up to a week for those who get obsessed and create some kind of mini-campaign (complete with custom tile graphics and enemies). Personally, I think that would be pretty darn fun

thats what I was thinking actually. That's why I used the diverse planet thing in my story- so inconsistency actually seems more logical. I mean, there's still the story levels for the project members but that way wed have something to do while the others are off building levels. And yeah, Neuro, I tend to check it just as much.

It's looking to me like there's no artist, which I'd say is a pretty big problem.

I can do some sketching for concept art but im not as good at the digital stuff. I said before id send some up but ive been bedridden with bronchitis since with a headache that hasn't let up for 5 days. I'm gonna try to get a lot of stuff done once i stop feeling like something that even the most desperate hobo wouldn't touch for a million bucks. Wow. That was a good analogy. I gotta write that one down.

You know ... I looked up that Raze's Hell game on YouTube and ... there's NO Rainbow Blood! ... How is that anything like what I said before?

But, yea .. where's the Artist at? ... without that, realistically this project is gonna fizzle real quick.

Hmm ... Nope ... still just the RED stuff. I was talking about Cute things that actually Bleed RAINBOW colors.

Someone said that Raze's Hell had it, which it did Not. Sure it had Cutesy enemies, but big deal, there's been TONS of games like that. I'm talking about a game where you are just a human guy, a little on the serious/angry/sinister side, and get transported through a dimensional gateway into a realm where there's nothing but cute creatures and they don't hurt you, but they get in your way and hinder your progress.

You'd have an "Insanity Meter" that raises like time, the longer you are in the Cute world, the higher the meter will be.

Some creatures could give him HUGs and add to the driven mad by cuteness theme and add to the "Insanity Meter".

You can choose to try to avoid the cute creatures (they will be everywhere and tough to avoid), or choose to brutally bash their heads in with Kicks, stomps, throws, weapons, or whatever.

Has anyone made anything like that? ... What do you mean by "Hippie Blood" ? .. all I seen in Serious Sam were Alien lookin' things and the usual RED color blood that every game has.

You guys said you wanted something more "laid back" though, which this is not as it's more of a Run through as Quick as you Can game. As far as I know noone has ever done this idea.

well in serious sam in the options menu you can make the blood red, green, blue, or flowers.

I wasn't citing raze for blood color, more like the serious thing stuck in the cutesy world. The gameplay isn't the same as you suggested (i don't think- never played it, actually) but it's essentially the storyline. A demon sent straight from hell is stuck in a world that doesn't know the meaning of hate... blah blah blah blow s*** up.
