Tarmak 2: Rise of the Arcades
The ultimate experience in vintage geek pixel-art cyberpunk adventure

Take control of the arcades gang and start a turf war to win back your reputation and control over the Westside.
From the shit filled sewers to the luxury offices of big corporations. From the wrecks of the caryard to the chicks of the city's hottest nightclub. You'll have to roam the streets and alleys of the metroplex and the most remote corners of the matrix to silence the "opposition" and get your rep' back.

Grab a weapon. A broken bottle or a good old colt. Buy as much drug as your pockets can handle. Round up your gang and strike your enemies quick and hard. The street is alive, so keep your ears and eyes open and use your urban magic wisely to get through Tarmak 2's five different levels.

So watcha waiting for. Heat up those knuckles and fingertips, clean your keyboard and prepare yourself for a vintage cyberpunk adventure.

Here's a teaser video

This game runs 320x200 and 256 colors and was meant to look like that

The game's language by default is french but you can switch to english in config.bat

Looks quite nice!

Posted by Spiriax 30th January, 2008

Indeed, it does!
By the way, I thought it was rather odd that this was in the Projects section too, since it's released now. I just saw this on the Download section when I was about to write "I'm looking forward to this" in the forums of the Projects section.
Ah well, the more attention the better I guess! I'll be testing this right away now.

Ooooohhhh... nice... will download later.

I'll have to check this out tomorrow. Screen shots look nice and I'm a sucker for good cyberpunk.

looks gd, downloading

Posted by Moonyjacob 31st January, 2008

i can't understand the laungage, and it made my computer crash...

Posted by 8do 31st January, 2008

Sorry it made your computer crash, Moonyjacob.
Yet, for the language issue, you should launch config.bat and select english instead of french. ;D

Thanks for your comments.

I hate to admit it but I can't find the first weapon. I've been wondering around finding nothing for 10 minutes now.... I really do like the this game, I just wish players started with a weapon. Also I think the character moves a little too fast. Great sound and graphics!

Posted by 8do 31st January, 2008

Thanks for your rating.
About the 1st weapon, if I were you, I would look around in the bathroom of the K-club.

And you can actually modify the game speed in the config.bat utility.

If I had someone who could do graphics like that, I'd be getting GOTW every other week

Very well done game. The only concern I have about first floor of concrete Clan, with the pool-with switches puzzle. The note says that switches react differently to different weapons, but I tried all weapons I had and they all give the same result, which does not let me to solve the puzzle. So can you say specifically which weapons give different result?

Posted by charloid 1st February, 2008

Hey Roman-the-evil,
You're pretty quick!!! Already at the COncrete level! Congratulations.

Don't worry to much 'bout the damn weapons: you just need a gun to shoot straight, and a shotgun when you need too shoot with a larger range.
There are no "tricks" to solve the maze: just keep tryin'... Don't forget that sometimes, by moving aroud, you might see switches you haven't noticed before.

And after you're done with the clan, there are 2 "special" levels that awaits you...

Thanks for your great comments, dear pixel-adorers.

The game was written in Java over the last 2 year now and then when we had some spare time.
As you may have noticed, this is Tarmak 2.
There was a Tarmak 1 back in 1998 but we never finished it.

Tarmak is a tribute to the cyberpunk action-adventure game genre that we loved so much back in the '90s
We had a lot of fun in this project.
Hope some people will enjoy playing it

you mean the top secret lab and the ninja level?
I done them before I went into concrete clan.

Posted by 8do 1st February, 2008

Wow, Roman. it seems you have logged already several hours on Tarmak.
Well done !
Have you been able to sort out the switch-room puzzle?
I agree that the tip given by "the stone" is misleading.
I will modify it in the next version.

Toxic, if you're unable to launch the game, I can propose 2 things:
1) download the latest Java release.
2) Go in the properties of Tarmak.exe (right click) and set the compatibility to win95

Hope that helps.

Very good game. It reminds me Full Trottle

Posted by 8do 6th February, 2008

there is a new version of Tarmak2 available for download.
It solves many bugs and adds a few nice features and bonuses.

- The "loading" freeze is solved
- The "unable to save" bug is solved.
- The HARD mode is now fully operational.
The difference between NORMAL and HARD is that you can't buy medikits in HARD
- More loot. Ennemies can now drop nice armors for your delight.
- Graphic refresh of Pete's stripclub
- New music for the concrete clan level.
- New secret side quest in the desert
- New feature for the MasterSword. It shoots when you're full health as in Zelda
- The Bosses presentation is finished

notice how the comments stopped after he said it was made with java... "click made" or not this game is awesome!!! It's actually pretty funny that one of the best games I've ever seen on TDC was not made using a clickteam product... although I think it could have been made with MMF2 theoretically. Maybe you should consider MMF2 for the next Tarmak game - if only because it has hardware acceleration. 8do is king!

I downloaded this game out of curiosity, and i thought it was going to be just another klick game. It turned out to be one of the best klick games ive played in a long time, and i hope you come out with a new one soon.

Posted by 8do 14th February, 2008

So Tarmak is GOTW even though it was not created with a Clickteam tool. What an honor !

Actually, when I posted the game on TDC, I had no idea that this site was dedicated to games created with Clicktem software.
Maybe Tarmak3 will be done with MMF2
Let's first concentrate on perfecting Tarmak 2 and then we'll see.

Thanks for your comments ! (negative or positive)
They are always welcome.

Hmm ... nice game ... guess I have to go with the crowd on this. ... should try out some Klik stuff and let us know how they compare to Java.

I use the first one titled as The Games Factory.
aka TGF1.

But it has its quirks. MMF2 has the most features.
Of course, It costs alot. TGF2 is like $50 or so,
but the interface is closer to MMF1 than TGF1.

You got talent, so you could probably make a nice game in a few weeks or months with TGF. Sure beats years on one project.

Hi 8do, congrats on the great game! Actually this site is not clickteam software exclusive, even if it may seem that way, we happily accept every game project out there

Reminds me of the good old Super Nintendo game Shadowrun (mentioned above). Nice graphics, nice gameplay etc. Overall a good cyberpunk-style adventure game.

Fabioulus!!!

Posted by Toadsanime 8th July, 2008

Question: why is this a sequel? I've never even heard of its prequel before.

Posted by 8do 14th July, 2008

There actually was a prequel called... Tarmak. (duh)
It was 1998, we were young, had too much free time, a lot of ideas, but no abilities to program or design anything decent in DOS.

So Tarmak never got completed.

If you don't give it a perfect rating I think you need to say why not, otherwise it's not exactly fair.

Evil! You voted less than 5 stars!

Posted by nim 7th November, 2008

This game looks great, like a mixture of Full Throttle and Dreamweb. But, I can't download it. Does anyone know of a mirror?

I tried to download it again today and it seems the link it broken. I didn't realize there was a way to play it in English. Anyway, it was a bizarre yet enjoyable experience when I played it originally.

Posted by 8do 17th May, 2009

Oh, sorry about the broken link, guys.
it's repaired now!

Yes, the game plays originaly in french but feel free to switch it to english in the config.bat
Cheers
