Since it seems it's quite rare for games and demos on TDC to get more than around 30 downloads i think i might try to find a few freeware websites where you can freely submit to.
So does anyone know of any websites where users are encouraged to submit their games as apposed to waiting for the website to find you?
Just do a good enough job to get on Indigames or Tigsource I think. I think I did well without them though, but I suppose its what you want to happen. If you want to make it big(tm) then you need to make individual contacts or build up a really huge rep. If you just want more people to play your games then it helps to have user generated content, forums, rabid fans who'll freely promote you on countless other forums.
I USED TO LOVE THAT SHOW! anyway, yeah as James said, really. Usually things will travel best by word of mouth, so as long as your game etc makes a big impression to a few people you've got enough really.. i.e. Knytt.
But seeing from your profile, I've heard of a lot of your games, just never really played them. Hmm.. I dunno, I made a website once, made 'alliances' with a few other game developers, joined a freeware web ring, joined a few website ranking charts. And with my rather poor quality KNP game (trash by today, very good by KNP standards), I actually got a some fans. Heck, one random guy on a 'teen chan' who I was pulling a prank on over IRC found my email address and said "Hey, you're the guy who made Freebor Games!"
So, yeah, that works back in the early days of the Click Community. I'm not sure how it goes these days. But I had something kinda unique. I'll write an article on in as soon as I can convince the coding admins to fix the article rating system
