Hi there!

I have winXP, so I can't really test this out myself. It seems that whenever I try to access a saved file in "Appdrive$+Appdir$", winXP does it and Vista crashes. I've read some forum entries about that and the only solution seems to be saving files in AllUsersAppDataDirectory$ (wherever that is...). But I want the game data all be in the application folder, so there is no need for searching around if you simply want to delete the game.

Is there any other way to still save/load all files from the app directory and let Vista not crash?

Thanks for your help

It might be an issue related to the UAC. Try running the app as an adminstrator or save the INI file in a non-protected location (anywhere but program files or the windows directory).
If you don't want to actually change anything in your game to trouble shoot the problem though, you can turn the UAC off by clicking the start menu then clicking your picture in the top right corner and unchecking "Turn on user account control." then restart your PC.

See if that helps.

My testers report that they always execute everything as administrator. So I doubt that it has to do with user rights. The only solution I have for now is turning Win98 compatibility mode on. That works in 100% of the cases so far. I just wanted to see if there is a sweeter solution for that.

I can't test it myself, so there is no way I can trial and error how Vista handles stuff like this. I just thought maybe someone encountered the same problem before and knows a good solution of handling savegame or configuration data with Vista or Win7.

No, this did not fix the issue. But thanks anyway.

Nobody here who is using Vista or Win7 and operating with Ini++? How do you load and save stuff?

I'm using win 7 64bit, and I use the InI++ object all the time. No crashes ever.
None reported by my testers either.

I'm using version 1.0 though, the 1.5 version is too different to switch.

How do you use it? Set path with string or do you do it with the drop box of the object? Or any other tips on how to use it?

It crashes for my testers as soon as the application is trying to read from it. Saving works fine. Any ideas?

Okay, with a little trial and error I've nailed it down to the event when I actually change from one file to the other to check the saved values.

I've updated to Ini++ 1.5 now and (un)fortunately now winXP crashes as well - which makes it easier for me to find the error.

So, when I load only one file, it works. But as soon as I try to load another file, it crashes.

What I do to load each file is

set encryption to "xxx"
load Apppath$+"gg2"+CheckSlot( "Title Manager" )+".dat" (readonly=0)
save global values from group "globals"

The first file loads fine but as soon as I try to load another file (with a clear all event in between), it crashes.

Now I've tried 'change current file', but that only works with one next file and seems to not load all data correctly.

I've also tried to look for a easy to understand INI++ tutorial on loading and saving values, but I couldn't find anything that was helping me with this issue.

Report the crash to the extension author and what causes it.

He updates this extension so he should help you.
PM him on the clickteam forums.

For you info I use multiple ini++'s for my project which may be why I'm not experencing those crashes.

I've made a little debug MFA file and included the three savegames for my game. Maybe someone can take a look to see what is wrong there? Try to load all savegames to see the crash.
