How to make a good horror game?
It's simple... there are some rules, what you must follow, to have a good horror game.
First:
I think at a horror game the most important thing is the story. It must be full with twistes, and it must be scary... it's not easy writing a scary story, I know, but a good horror game needs this.
Second:
The second thing, that a good horror game must have, is the monsters... most of the horror games have zombies as enemies, and that's good. Never ever use aliens as enemies, because that way your horror game would become more likely a sci-fi, and that is definitly NOT good. You can use abstract monsters too(unknown creatures, what only have skins, and they have two hands coming out from their head, or something like this... like in Silent Hill 2). The abstract, and the unknown is scary.
Third:
The sounds. If you want people to get scared, you must use loud sounds, and you must use them, when nobody expects it. Creepy background noises like raining, or lightning, are good too.
Fourth:
The music. Slow musics, are good for using in horror games. Slow and mystic musics.
Fifth:
Level design. I advice you to use snow at your games, because I think the snow adds a creepy feeling to your game. Snow is white, blood is red, and the two colours look great on eachother. For buildings I advice gothic style.
Sixth:
People. If you use only a few living people in your game, then your game will get more interesting... each people must have a personality. They must have weak points, so the game will get more interesting...
I think this is all you need... sorry for my very bad english... have a good time making a horror game!
