Humor. The most elusive piece of your game. Many people try to make a funny game, but fall flat on their faces. (Check CIRCY's game, LOL CLASSIC ASHMAN, for details. I think that was supposed to try to be kinda funny. Guess what? It wasn't.) Well, the main problem is that eople are putting the wrong kind of humor into the wrong type of games (i.e. slapstick in strategy games, sex jokes in a space invaders clone, etc.). Well, here's a couple of tips on making your game funny.
1. NO RACISM.
This is #1, not just to try to stop racism, but to make it funnier. If someone finds a racist joke that offends them (i.e. "Not like those filthy americans! They're scum, kill them all!" And I'm not speaking against americans, as I am one... i like british people equally, though.), they'll stop laughing at any jokes. They'll post comments. And they'll probably get you banned from tdc. So please, no racism.
2. PLACE HUMOR WISELY.
This is a big one. Let's say one of your jokes is a guy pissing on somthing. Where would it be funnier? If you're walking through a field and see him pissing on a tree? Or if you find a big set of doors in a nuclear power plant and expect them to lead to the boss... and you open them, and see a gy pissing on some nuclear waste, momentsd later casuing the plant to explode? Probably the second one.
3. MATCH HUMOR TYPE TO GAME TYPE.
I'll just put down the chart. I'm off to get a snack, read this chart.
HUMOR TYPES

a. Slapstick
This is any violent humor-- laughing at the pain of others. Most three stooges episodes had this, with physical jokes. This is well-suited in a platformer or mini-games game.
b. Satirical
This is making fun of something, usually the rich and famous, but not involving violence. Like most things involving Micheal Jackson. Good for a shooter, action, or RPG, maybe.
c. Parodical
A game or movie like the insulted game or movie, but with jokes throughout. Also, copying a scene or cliche, but with a joke in it. For example, the Scary Movie series. Good for anything!
d. Innuendo
Sexual humor. See the Austin Powers series for LOADS of this stuff.Good in a shooter, and anything not intended for little kids (the older the age target, the raunchier the humor, just don't go overboard.)
e. Dry Humor
Witty remarks, funny observances, etc. I can't think of an example. Good in strategy games and more sophisticated shooters.
And last topic...
4. FOCUS ON GAMEPLAY, NOT HUMOR.
A bad but funny game is still bad.
Goodnight everybody, I'm off to bed.
