I seriously recommend this book. It's got Lord British, the Level Lord, Sid Meier, and a bunch of other people... really useful in what and what not to do.
Yeah, a lot of the stuff has to do with making mollah. Much of it doesn't apply to the indie market, and some of the stuff is so fanciful (voice acting!) that we could never dream of it. But it's good.
