I'm working on a stealth-action platformer called Splinter Source 2 (obviously the sequel to Splinter Source (check in my profile for the download)). With the engine just about done, Tidegear is doing the Offline 'Versus Mode' but I thought it would be cool if 'Versus Mode' could be taken online as well.

I'm not even sure if an online side-scrolling game is possible, so if its not, feel free to slap me back into reality - I dunno too much about MOO or whatever its called.

Anyways, some quick info on the online 'Versus Mode'. There will be 2 teams, one comprised of Spies and the other, Grunts.

+ Spies are fast, completely silent, agile and are invisible when in the shadows.

+Grunts on the other hand are slow, noisy (their equipment rattles and stuff), heavily armed and have a small flashlight.

Players (3 max) can play as a Spy or a Grunt against eachother or bots (although a bot cannot be a Spy, so one player must always play the spy). Of course there are more details than that, but I dun wanna spoil everything for future players , however you'll be given the entire design doc for Splinter Source 2 if your chosen.

If given the engine, anyone who thinks they can make all this run over network wires (and is interested in working on the game), please post something on this thread along with some evidence of your ability.

You can make a splitscreen game but I don't think your idea is possible or that easy if tried to be made.

The offline Versus mode will not be split screen. The information I gave above is for the online version only. I'd like to keep further additions to this thread consistent with the ONLINE version.

I'm not a moo expert or anything - but I think you need a server.. There are some ones hosted for people to use, but they always seem to be down and are usually pretty slow (because so many people use them) - I can never seem to get MooClick to work with them neither.. If i'm wrong please correct me

Well servers are one issue, but I thought one of those MOO things allowed games to be played over LAN or directly connecting to a friends computer who would be the server?

Direct connect might work for you, but its slow buggy and not many people use it anymore. (well at least the click extension) BUT it would be easy for you to use in the short term.

Anyone can act as a server really... you just need a way for people to get to know the ip addresses of the person who is hosting the game. You can use the mooclick servers also if you want to do that kind oh hosting.

Your keywords are moo, moogame, mooclick, moo2, and moosock

Just look up tutorials on moo/ online games. Go to the clickteam forums and look up "moo" also try to find all of the old old tutorials. Tiger works has some good ones also (he covers just about everything you really need... so play around with them until you learn what is going on, it might be a good idea to keep notes, and save source to programs you don't understand, then later when you think you can get it go back to them and learn them!!!!!!!!1111111111111 o___O)

Moosock might also work :3


Also try google, there are a few people who don't submit to click sites but make good tutorials.
