created flaming torch (on castle wall etc..) but I now am trying to get a flickering light effect - is the only way of doing this by creating a complex active object or is there another way?

to start press any key ...... where's the ANY KEY??

If you mean that you want to make the whole window/screen flickering, I don't manage to think anything else but a huge active (or some other huge) object.. Of course u could also set all the objects invisible, and set the background black, but that's what nobody would use!

If you're using MMF you could use the Alpha Channel Object.

It would do what you want I think. You could make a glow shape around the torch and have the size change so it looks like it flickers.

With Alpha Channel though you can have it all nice and blurry around the edges, without having to draw it on the wall itself. It'd be proper bo.
