Okay so im gonna attempt to post pictures from my current game (out of about ten lol) that i have recently picked up on. Its an Rpg called Dragon Whistler, orginally called 'Legend of the Dragon Boy' But i prefered Dragon whistler. Its about a boy named Eika who is taken away with his friends whilst exploring an old tree, the old palm. He is taken into another world where as usual he has to save the day by taming legendary dragons which are slowly starting to destroy the world in protest against their eggs being stolen. I did start this game AGES ago but i was using TGF then and now MMF has the solutions to help me on my way and improve the game. Already, a few fades etc have helped the original version. Im not posting an official preview yet as it is no-where near completion but i just wanted some feedback!
Okay ill try and post some pics so here it goes!!!
lol im tryin!Ive just been working on that first picture ou can see. Now there are people walking around and you can go look around. Its a tiny settlement (An excuse for less work!) But hopefully the story line will help to spread it out alot longer. so far there are more cinematic scenes than actual game play lol. The characters them selves only have two directions, left and right when walking around. It is the style of my games, and also that i can be bothered to make front and backwards facing sprites!
agggge (lol how many bloody g's!) yes i do make them myself. In the past year ive been doing alot of pixel art and I also use paintshop hell of alot. Shadows are and important factor, i believe. If you look at the ladders in the first shot, a simple cloning of the backdrop object was made, made a shade darker and set to be transparent, and then finally set behind the ladders. Its so east to do and im suprised i dont see many people putting detail or nice touches into their games. Mindyou, thats probably why i take so long making a game and then never getting it finished lol. One day ill post an aritcle on graphics. OH! before i forget. The main background is a watercolor i did a few months back. The original corp was rubbish, but with the help of photoshop AGAIN! i got the look i wanted.
Thanks. Ive just completed the exploration of Little Green Glen, which is the first screenshot. basically you just go around n talk to people, nothing serious just aload of kybosh like. 'my brother just discovered fishing.' lol. Im also proud of my waterfall in the Green Glen area. It is animated and looks quite good if i may say so myself! But i have loadsa uni work to do at the moment so after next week i wont be working on it for a while. perhaps an hour a day.Another thing i need to improve is the peoples animations. they dont really show alot of emotion at the moment, only through words so i need to sort that one out!
lol they are flat thats what i meant by them only having two directions, Left and right! i used that style with thes same character in another rpg i attempted to make and it worked okay. There will be battles, how im not sure yet, originally they were turn based but it got too complex for me. Its not like zelda at all, lol im not a huge fan of zelda although i know its good, i could never complete the games! Its kinda more story like and ive focused more on the graphics than the programming i suppose.. im not a good programmer lol. Dont put ur work down im sure youll actually finish your game, im really betting i wont finish this!
Don't get me wrong, the pictures are really cool looking and all, but once you said something about the ladder shadows, I noticed that they made no sense. It's like, they hit the wall and still go at the same angle when they should go up the wall. You should really just draw them straight down, because the way they lie right now, the light source would have to be much lower, so much so that it would be visible in the scene. Also, the little cabbages growing everywhere kind of look like they're just laying on top of a picture rather than part of the scenery.
Anyway, everything else looks good. Good luck with the game.
